1998, North York, Toronto, ON, Canada
Just arrived to your home during my first Christmas in America. One of my best memories!
Dear Roma,
Rest in peace. Thank you for all the help that you’ve given me when i needed it. You were always an example for me to having a life full of adventure, hard work, play, goals, persistence, and creating a perfect family.
I will always remember how you sheltered a homeless student (me) in 1998 and in 2004 when I immigrated to Canada and moved to Toronto. I stayed in your beautiful house for 6 months and felt like I was a part of your family.
Thank you!
I tried to find a picture with you and I in it but i realized we never did take a picture together. You were always the one taking them. I guess i will just have to remember you as a picture in my mind.
You have touched many souls and your legacy will stay and multiply in ways you can’t even imagine.
Rest in peace, Roma, and have a beautiful journey ahead.
Guide us from above!

A small group of us travelled…
2021, Pine Point
A small group of us travelled to Pine Point Saturday and watched Romans funeral online there because it felt right, then lit a candle on the T dock . Romans light and spirit continues to burn brightly.

I only got to meet and talk to Roman on a few occasions but whenever I got the chance to growing up, I was able to talk with a man that didn’t just have an entire life worth of wisdom to share, but a genuinely kind soul that would always show hospitality. When my mom had told me of his passing I thought of the cottage weekends him and his wife were so kind to host, and the smile he had on that weekend, and even after these many years I still remember clearly.

I am so sorry for your loss and you guys are definitely in my prayers.
Our deepest condolences to Ella, Andrew and Max and the rest of the Reydman family. Roman was such an amazing man and he will be very missed by all of us.

Sending love,
Nima and Camille

My father was a deeply empathic man, who cared.

He cared about how he would be understood and was careful with his words.

He cared about his friends and was always there to help.

He cared about making the world a better place, at one time writing to President Obama asking him to change the tax code in America to make it fairer.

Most of all, he cared about his family.

He left the USSR to make a better life for all of us and touched and helped everyone gathered here and watching remotely. He helped the rest of our family and many other families immigrate to Canada, providing every support and enabling their future lives here.

For me, he was the source of countless examples of personal accountability, kindness and wisdom.

The deepest and most meaningful conversations I have ever had, were with him. I am extremely fortunate to have spent so much time with Roman and to have his love and attention.

I want to thank my mom for her devotion to him since his heart surgery. She was always his inspiration, and he survived his trauma because of her.

Thank you, dad, for a life brilliantly lived. You will never be forgotten.

Dear Roma,

I miss you. My heart aches 💔 I’m sad we didn’t get to see more of eachother this past year. Given my personality (rule follower) I was concerned about keeping you safe now, so we could have you with us longer. I should have taken the opportunities to hug you and give you kisses, unfortunately I was only able to do it with my eyes. I have comfort in that you knew how much I loved you. You cared for me, my family and my friends.

You always wanted us to be our better selves. You asked us intriguing questions. You challenged us. You taught us.

I wish you didn’t have to suffer for so long. I feel you pushed yourself for us. You tired everything. All to give us more time with you. I know you lived a very fulfilling life, with our dear Ella. I’m grateful to have a part of you in my husband and children. I will cherish our memories and your contagious smile. Love you - your Minashka
Roma was loving, caring and kind. Although we didn’t have as much in common as my sister and him, we had this unconditional understanding of how much we love and care about each other. He made me feel appreciated and beautiful, when others couldn’t. He never failed to remind me how capable I am, and he always made me feel safe and warm. His top priority was always his family, and I always felt confident that he would support me no matter what. I’m going to miss him sitting at the head of the table during breakfasts at the cottage, hugging him and kissing his warm forehead. It’s going to feel extremely empty without his uplifting presence, and I’m going to miss him for the rest of my life.
My dear husband, my friend, my everything,

Today we are saying goodbye to your last journey, and I would like to thank you for the amazing life we had together for 56 years. We have known each other for 60 years.
Thank you to be persistent to convince me that you are the best person for me to be marry! And you proved it!

Thank you, for helping me, guiding me, supporting me all the way. Building confidence in me which helped me be successful in every step of my life - in getting a higher education and in my professional career.

Thank you, for the two beautiful boys, our sons, which we raised as amazing human beings. You loved them so much. You spend lots of time with them, teaching and imprinting all important aspects and values of life.

Thank you, for letting me to be free in my own decisions and make my own choices and be supportive and helpful.

But for most of the things, whatever we did, it was always done together as a team effort. We could have differences in opinions, but we were always trying to find common grounds, common solutions in order to proceed further in order to achieve our goals.

We were very, very good team!

I will be greatly missing you, my dear. But I promise you, that I will be fine, and I will be enjoying my life the way you want me to.

You did everything to make sure I will be safe and protected and have a good loving support from our wonderful family. You taught them importance of family values. They were always “happy islands“ for us and they will continue to be “happy islands” for me.

I promised you to be happy surrounded by family and devoted friends and...people you touched in so many different ways and...
There are so many of them...I was overwhelmed reading their posted condolences.

I will follow your philosophy and your wish how to handle grief. This is what you wrote to our younger friend when she lost her child and she lovingly shared it with me.

"Your grief is deep and this is a reflection of your endless love, complex emotions and special personality. It will always be a part of your days. Painful and cheerful, sunny and gloomy. Still, in spite of your current views, you are so strong and intense that you will open your hearts to welcome a fresh air in your lives and wonderful memories will help you to fully enjoy life again.
This is my belief and my wish.
-Roman"

Thank you, my dear, again for your guidance...

You will be always present...in my life...in my heart.

Rest in peace, my love...forever.
