Dearest Papa,

You were an incredible influence in my life. I felt you always had high expectations of me, but you never pressured me to be who you wanted me to be. Instead, you guided me with your principles, and loved me unconditionally, which allowed me to be the best version of my own self.
You taught me that anything of value in this world; an enriching career, a stable/loving family life, cherished friends, is achieved through hard work and joy. You taught me the importance of being supportive and respectful to those around you, and doing so with humility and empathy. You always showed how proud you were of me, and I, intern, challenged myself to be better to make you proud.
With this I have been able to achieve much success and contentment in my life. For that I will be internally grateful.
You will be missed deeply by everyone whose life you touched. However, you have left us all with one of the most enduring gifts of all…a shining example of a life well-lived and a blueprint for those around you to follow.
We all want more of you – more for a friend, a relative, a grandchild, a son. But as-is life…we must let you go now so you can rest. You will never be forgotten. Your legacy will live in all of us for generations to come.

With deepest gratitude and heartbreak, your son,
Andrewshinka

Whether you knew him as a friend, a colleague, a sibling, a father or a husband, we can all agree that Roma was an extremely hardworking, intelligent, respectable man, and those who had the opportunity to spend time, and talk with him, are very lucky. To me, he was my grandfather, and being his eldest grandson, he took his time to teach me and pass down all of the knowledge and experience that he has. He taught me the values of respect, and hard work, and overall gave me lessons on how to have a successful future. He had very high expectations of me, and sometimes it felt like it was very tough to please him, but I came to understand that he only pushed me because he saw the potential in me and he truly wanted to bring out the best in me, and lead me one the path to success. As I matured, we tended to get into many arguments, me and him would debate various topics for hours, rarely reaching an agreement. Although I was stubborn, I would still walk away from those conversations, and be able to have learned something from him, no matter what the subject. What I most admire about him, and what I hope he will be remembered for is how he would never let anything stop him. He unfortunately had health complications in his later years, but amazingly, you couldn't even tell. He would always be lifting something that looked like he shouldn't be, or working on some new project to solve a problem we didn't even know we had. And best of all he continued to do it all and more with a smile on his face. Sadly due to the unfortunate place that the world is in right now, I wasn't able to spend as much time with him before he passed as I would have liked too. I feel as though now I would be able to truly appreciate his lessons, and I feel sorry that my younger brother will not be able to learn from him the same way I did. I will try my best to retain and apply the things that he has taught me in my everyday life. We all loved him, and he had space in his big heart for all of us. May he rest in peace.

Roman was literally our closest friend since our properties are just two meters apart. We shared with Alisa and Roman the same passion for poetry and science, the same test for good wine and food, the same love for exotic places. We spent together memorable moments, talking about the world's problems, or playing chess. It was always a pleasure to meet each other.
Roman will be remembered as a jovial person, wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, who brought joy and thoughtfulness to his world. We are honored of being part of that world and we honor him for all his achievements and for his unique character. May his soul rest in peace forever.
When I learned of Roman’s passing, I felt an almost immediate sadness. More than a father to someone I consider family, Roman was one of the foundational inspirations in my life. I remember first knowing him at 7 Dumont St. in my teenage years, as friend to Andrew and David. Roman carried an elegance I hadn’t seen before. In the years since, I gained appreciation for his exacting balance to life, as he generously shared wisdom and his time. Roman exposed new perspectives on life, love, money, health beyond what I learned from my own family, and all with the playful joy often lost after children grow up. Roman became one of the best examples for me of how to live a successful life, surrounded by a community of those he loved and those that loved him. Even though no longer with us in person, I’m happy to know I’ll continue learning from Roman’s memories in years to come, and I’m forever grateful for having known him and the family he lived for.

Max, Andrew,

I am so deeply sad to realize your Dad’s gone.

Such times one starts counting chances missed to drop an email, to share a joke, to place a call, to dismiss an invitation...

It might feel terrible to think that never again your Dad shields you with his wit and wisdom.

For many, Roma is a giant. He - and your Mom, both of you - was a start of the better.

In my case, while I seem very distant , my heart always belongs to all of you. And, your father has a very special and cherished niche in my memory. For there are some moments in the daily routine when the mind races through faces one loves - and, recollections of your folks are always making me smile.

I am sure you made your Dad a very happy one. Keep talking about him - among you, your families, your children, your friends. - Every time doing so you find yourself seeing him and hearing his voice.

For as long as we remember Roma vividly, he is with us. - I promise , your Dad is in my heart and his place there is permanent.

I am with you gents.... Sasha Ioffe.

A genuine and sincere man, Roman impressed us as someone who adored his Yolka from the moment he laid eyes on her, wanted nothing but the best for his family, used his natural, sharp business acumen and hard work to achieve his goals and combined all this with his love for life, fun and adventure. He is looking down at all of us saying, "I had a good time with all of you!" We will miss all the fun and laughter we had with him (and Alisa) which are now fond memories at Bala Beach Panama, Pine Point and Niagara-on-the-Lake. We are glad that we had a chance to have lunch with Roman (and Alisa) at the Ravine Vineyard last Fall. We wish him eternal peace and happiness.

In a difficult year, this news makes things a little harder. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Roma, but I have enjoyed my friendship with Andrew and his family.
Please accept our sincere condolences.

My Dear Cousin Roman,

When we emigrated to Canada, you were the first person who gave us the best advice and an introduction about life here.

For a long time, my life was complicated. You and Ella were always incredibly supportive of me and my son Adrian. You opened the door to your house for us when we had no place to stay. We lived in your warm, happy family home for several months. I will never forget it and I will always cherish those moments spent together with your family, where we always found generosity, understanding and respect.

Roman, your amazing personality was an example to Adrian, and he always looked up to you. A few years ago, after Adrian, like you, got his Ph.D. degree, he was so excited when you and Ella came to visit us. I remember when you took Adrian aside to talk with him privately about mathematics and artificial intelligence and share your experiences. It was a pleasure to look at the two of you talking about something only you could understand.

I was so lucky having you in my life. I will miss you so much. You gave us an amazing example of how to be human, how to respect and support each other. It was a privilege that I participated in many family celebrations where you and Ellochka created a wonderful atmosphere, where everybody felt welcome and important.

Ellochka dorogaja, you are in our hearts and prayers. We love you so much, and if there is anything we can do to help you at this time or in the future, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Max, Andrew, and your wives and children - your father and grandfather left you an important legacy of how to be a shining example for others. I know you will honour his memory and his legacy.

This is an incredibly sad time for all of us, but we will keep his memory as a blessing.
