She was a very kind soul and the best neighbor.
When I was younger and locked myself out of the house she welcomed me into her home with open arms and let me stay with her until my mom came home. We had a long conversation about my future and she always told me I would be a great nurse and so her words came to reality. She encouraged me a lot. May she rest in peace and she will definitely be missed.

The shock of such a quick demise is still with me. I recruited Concha to come to teach at SDSU School of Social Work at several APM's for CSWE while she was working on her doctorate. She finally agreed & came to San Diego to offer social work students her amazing expertise on mental health, especially for clients of color. Her research has been invaluable; such a beautiful woman, spirit, and social worker. I was so happy that USC offered her resources that befitted her expertise, and so I readily supported her decision to join the LA community. She was a powerful role model not just for Chicano/a students but all students in Social Work. My condolences to her family and friends.

Concha's been someone I always admired and respected throughout my life as a social worker. We graduated from USC SOWK Masters program on the same year, shared a memorable practicum experience as young Latina women and went on to stay in touch through the years. What a beautiful life and what a beautiful affirmation of all she gave and shared with us, with her family and with many more.

I first met Concha in Amsterdam when she and Don were visiting Europe for a MSc graduation. It was a short flight for me from Finland and I was so happy to have met with them for several days, This was in June 2023; I have known Don since my Cal State Fullerton days in the late 1970's. We had such a great time walking the city: the canals, the art museums and trying out the restaurants. Concha became a friend in those two days and shows what a friendly wonderful engaging person she was.
It was sad to part with Concha and Don but then we met again the following year when I travelled to visit my sister. We met up for dinner, Concha, Don, my sister, and another close mutual friend from our Fullerton days, and had a great reunion and shared all of our stories. I zoomed with my sister this week and informed her about Concha's passing and she was deeply saddened as am I since Don informed me.
Please extend my condolences to all family and friends and, of course, Don to you. You made a lovely couple and the happiness and radiance that emanated from you both was heart warming to experience. Although we only met twice I feel like I have known Concha forever.
