My condolences to Cate’s family… I initially knew Cate through my brother, Sean Soucy… then dance classes at New Attitudes… then from mutual friends in our early 20s. Cate was such a vibrant soul and I enjoyed catching up with her life from Isabel at YTT a few years back. Cate - I will always remember your energy, your intelligence, and your beautiful smile.

This is a photo I took of Cate at Leah‘s wedding. We know Kate, because of her close friendship with our daughter Leah. Kate was a brilliant and beautiful woman and always a joy to be around. She will be missed by all who knew her.

There are so many ways I could describe Cate, but for now, I’m going to describe her as having one of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever come across in my life. From the first time Sarah brought her around to hangout with us and our group of friends, I knew how special she was. She knew how much Sarah’s friends meant to her, and Cate truly took all of her sisters friends in and made them friends of her own as well. Her personality was out of this world, her laugh was extremely contagious and her smile made everyone else smile instantly. I will never forget our trip to Las Vegas in 2015 for Sarah’s 21st birthday. The amount of laughter and good times I shared with Cate, Matt, Izzy, Sarah, Missy & Kareem will be memories that I cherish forever. There is something about how this family makes people feel so loved, wanted & included that’s really special because I honestly consider them all family to me. To Sarah, Izzy, Matt & TC, I love you guys so much.

Cate’s kindness was infectious. The few but great memories I have with her, she somehow made me feel extremely important and seen. She had a way of making you feel like nothing else in the world mattered, just what was happening in that moment. I hope to live more like Cate by going for what I want, dancing unapologetically, and loving everyone in your world with no regrets or judgment. I love you Edgell family and I’m sending all my thoughts.

I knew I would be friends with Cate before we even met. I came across her Facebook profile on our residency class Facebook page, and for some reason was instantly drawn to her. Maybe it was her confident smile. Maybe her witty gaze. When we met in person, the connection seemed instant. Our bond grew stronger with every shared residency rotation, laugh, sarcastic comment, rose latte, park walk, late night concert, and philosophical conversation. She was my person. To say that I'll miss her is an understatement. Cate, I will forever hold you in my heart. Rest peacefully.

My first rotation of intern year at OHSU, Cate was my senior resident. She taught me necessities like guideline directed medical therapy for heart failure, but also introduced me to kombucha and swapped tattoo ideas. From then on she continued to be someone I looked up to and went to for career advice or tips on where to do yoga. I thought of her recently when I chose some big pink glasses frames… she always had the coolest glasses. She truly touched people’s lives in ways she didn’t even know. I will always admire her.
