How do you succinctly summarize what a parent means to you? It feels impossible. My mom was larger than life - an enormous presence in the lives of anyone who knew her. She loved with all of herself and would do literally anything for her family. I know I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her.

Mom had me at a very young age, and yet she taught me about being a good, kind person and pushed me to strive for and achieve the things she wasn’t able to. When I think about whether or not I could have raised a kid at that age, when I could barely even cook for myself well into my 20s, I find it nothing short of amazing. She would struggle and sacrifice anything to make sure I had everything I needed to succeed. Higher education was a foregone conclusion -- she wanted me to be the first person in our immediate family to go to college. When I moved to OSU and had to provide for myself, her example was the template for my own work ethic and drive to make my own path, and it still guides me in my career and as a husband and father.

Mom was also a giver. If you knew her you know that she loved to treat you. She gave freely, even when money was tight or when she should have been taking care of herself instead. I’ll never forget how a simple offhand comment about being stressed out would result in her showing up to drop off a baked ziti or her famous mac and cheese. Birthdays, Christmas, and even random days of the week were all excuses to give gifts. It truly brought her joy to give and bring happiness to those around her. Even in her final days she was having books and legos sent to our house for her grandson. When we received those final packages for Felix I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. It was such a mom thing to do, worrying about Felix’s toys at a time like that. I think we could all benefit from being more like her in this regard.

She was dealt an unfair hand when it came to her health. She struggled more than most would realize, but even so she had a zest for life that I think is truly unmatched. She wanted to keep living, to experience everything she could. She was appreciative of every day she had with us and fought so very hard to enjoy her time with friends and family. Never was this more apparent than when she received the gift of her organ transplants. She was given the gift of time and was able to meet her grandson and watch me become a father. She embraced the role of ‘GiGi’ with so much joy. I will forever be thankful to her donor and her doctors for that, and I will cherish the time we had with her and Felix for the rest of my life.

Like I said, Mom was a bright light and an enormous presence in my life. It makes her absence so hard, because there won’t be anyone like her to fill that void again. Realizing the finality of it, that I’ll never get an overly sappy text message, or hear any more of her raunchy jokes which embarrassed me to no end, or that I’ll never get to tell her about my life and hear how proud she is of me is heartbreaking. I miss her so much, and I wish there was more time, but I am also thankful that she can finally rest, without pain or disease. And she lives on in me, Leland and Felix, and in the memories of everyone whose lives she touched. It’s up to us now to carry on her spirit -- to be kind to each other and to appreciate every day we have together, because that’s what she’d want. I love you, mom.

Angie lived her life to the fullest and embraced each day as a gift. She had a knack for making me laugh at the most stressful or sad times. She said things that most of us think but would never say out loud - and it sounded just fine coming from her. I will forever miss her but will try and find some consolation in that she is surrounded by her older brother Bill, her Grandma, and Nanny. Angie I know you are dancing in heaven.

You were one of the lucky ones if you knew Angie. A beautiful soul that was filled with laughter, love and a zest for living each day in vivid color! Her currency in life was her smile and her gift of making everyone around her feel special and loved.
My Fondest memory of my precious niece is when she was just two or three years old. We were at the beach Our gang consisted of Angie's mom, dad, sister Winky, Brother Burky, myself, my husband, cousin Kim and cousin Troy.
It was a beautiful, sunny day on the beach and all of the siblings and cousins were building sandcastles. The siblings and cousins were hard at work finishing their masterpieces and much to their dismay just as soon as each one completed their castle here comes little blond curly headed Angie pouncing on each one and they all collapsed like a row of dominos.
Angie, my beautiful, loving niece I was so blessed to be your Aunt. Thank you for bringing so much inspiration and happiness to our family. To me you will always be that little girl on the beach with blond curls bouncing in the sunlight.
Sleep with Angels my beautiful niece and know you will always be in my heart.

You can make a friend across the internet. I "met" Angela a few years ago across a KPTX Facebook group and knew right away she was the kind of person I wanted as a friend. Ever positive, an insanely inappropriate sense of humor; I was hooked. I would sit in shock and laugh my head off at her daily posts, my wife finally got used to them and started laughing as well. She understood how precious life, friends, and family are and did her best to give her all to everyone. I'll miss her. My condolences to her family. "Chi vive nel cuore di chi resta, non muore mai."
It’s taken me the last 6 days to begin to process that Ang is no longer with us. Angela was one of my first clients when I started doing hair 18yrs ago.

We quickly became friends and I learned early on she wasn’t like my usually clients who came in every 6-8 weeks. I got to see Ang every week for her weekly “bang trim”
She loved big hair! So a little texture here and there once a week helped her to maintain her “big hair”

Throughout the years while she fought various health battles, she would always find a ride to come get her hair done. I can still hear her saying “Linz my hair is flat, please squeeze me in”

Angela became family to me in no time. She spoiled my kids every Christmas, Halloween, Easter. She would arrive to her appointment with bags filled with gifts for them. She was a giver and had the biggest heart.

Over the last 18yrs every week she came in she shared a new story. Her love for Greg, a proud moment about Leland or Will, shared pics of Felix, she’d talk about get togethers with family, times with Linda and Kathy, fun times with Wanda, Jill and all her amazing friends, her love for her fur babies, music, the beach, cooking, and her gratefulness for Mark. If I hadn’t met you, I felt like I knew all about the ones she loved so much.

I remember 4 1/2 years ago when Ang received her double transplant. She was so thankful for her donor Mark who gave her a new kidney and pancreas “pancake & bean”
She wanted to live. She wanted to be with her family and friends and to one day have her own grandchildren. She did become a “Gigi” and she was the best one around. Having her grandson Felix brought her so much joy.

This past year Ang was in and out of the hospital. Fighting to save her organs. So our weekly visits spread out a bit to every 2-3 weeks. When she couldn’t make it into the salon, I would go to her home to do her hair.

One thing about Ang is she never left the salon or ended a text message without saying “I love you” I’m so thankful we told each other that one last time Monday. Ang passed a few hours later.

She was one of kind. I know I will never meet anyone quite like Ang ❤️

Each and every day was precious to her.
She fought each day to live, and although I selfishly wish she was still here, I am thankful she is no longer in pain. Now her body and soul are at peace.
Miss you & love you Ang 🌟

Angela was such a bright light in what can become dark days for transplant recipients. I immediately connected with her - I received my gift of life, a kidney, six years ago. Her unfailing spirit and determination were beyond measure. Although I never met her, she was an inspiration to me with her funny pictures from the hospital, her off-color jokes and postings. I will miss seeing her beautiful face and following her journey. I am so sorry she is gone; I will never forget her. I send my deepest sympathies to her family.

Angela was a great support for me with her positive outlook and conversations we shared. Though she was dealing with constant visits to OHSU. She took time to encourage me during my present illness. An amazing soul. I will miss her always.❤
