Angela's obituary

Angela Ann Bates left this world on November 16th, 2020.

I feel confident in saying that there will never again be another person on earth quite like Angie. Wife, mother, daughter, Gigi, auntie, bestie, cheerleader, and teller of insanely racy jokes. She was all of these things and so much more.

Angela was the third child born to Daniel and Kathy Bushinger on February 8th, 1969. Quite possibly the earth's noise level increased by at least a decibel or two the day she was born! Lovingly known to an adoring family as a “little terror,” this childhood boldness and tenacity turned out to be one her greatest adult strengths.

She was a natural born salesperson. From the time she was a young child taking rocks out of neighbors yards, painting them, ringing their doorbells, and selling them their own rocks back - to being a top furniture saleswoman at Meier & Frank for many years - she could sell you absolutely anything.

One of Angie's greatest loves was spending time with her family. Especially at the holidays. Her holiday exuberance once considered a little over the top will ultimately be remembered so fondly and with much humor. She was a giver and loved to shower others with presents. I believe her grandson Felix was still receiving gifts in the mail the day after she passed, and we’re honestly not convinced that’s even the last one.

Angie leaves behind her grieving husband Greg of many years whom she often called Gregory, GB, and a host of other nicknames. They had their own language and listening to their unique way of sharing their experiences together will be missed by our family so much.

Angie also leaves behind two sons, Will Thomas and Leland Bates of whom she was so incredibly proud of.

Additionally, two years ago Angie's oldest son Will and his beautiful wife Heather gave birth to what could only be described as the love of Angie’s life, Felix Thomas. Angie relished in being this little guy's “Gigi.” She was absolutely enamored with everything about him and was so grateful for every single moment spent with him.

This brings us to the double organ transplant that Angie received four and a half years ago that extended her life. Although shorter than we’d all hoped for, Angie made the most of her time and was forever grateful to her donor Mark and the entire Hagen Family. From the moment she awoke after transplant, she knew that the person whose gifted organs she carried was a very special person. She felt an immediate love and connection. Angie was so grateful for the relationship that was built with Mark's family and the time they spent together - especially at the Donate Life Northwest Walks and going to the Grotto to light candles together. There are no words to describe our entire family’s gratitude.

Angie leaves behind a loving mother and step-father, an adoring niece and nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends both old and new, a Thelma to her Louise, a pooch, a grand-pooch, a pride of cats, and the most well-fed squirrels and birds in the entire Northwest.

Her beauty both inside and out, feistiness, thoughtfulness, ability to inspire and create will never be forgotten and has left a permanent stamp on hearts and lives.

She is preceded in death by her brother Bill, who was probably the only person in this world that shared her exact sense of humor. Also by her father Daniel Bushinger, grandmother Janet Bowen, grandfather Bill Bowen, and great-grandmother Josephine Palumbo AKA Nanny. We’d like to think that all were there to welcome her and share a big bowl of Nanny’s spaghetti.

- Linda Carrier (Angie’s sister)
