Vincent's obituary

Vincent Lamar Edwards was born October 22, 1979, in Wichita Kansas, to Curtis and Vinita Edwards Jr. One of four children, Vincent attended public schools in Wichita and was the valedictorian for his graduating class at Wichita West High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism — broadcast news/news information and his master’s degree in journalism, strategic communications, both from the University of Kansas. (Go, Jayhawks!) He began his career as an academic advisor at KU’s College Access Program, where he facilitated workshops, taught college prep courses, recruited and advised students and chaired student leadership conferences. Afterwards, Vincent moved from Kansas to Washington, D.C., metro area, on faith and a dream. He worked in Virginia as an instructor at Prince George’s Community College in the Washington, D.C., metro area, and later transitioned to Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) as manager of professional education. He managed projects and brought creative ideas to fruition, helping the committees to provide great educational content through exciting events. Vincent loved his job — “every day is a new day, and I can expect the unexpected —” and he loved life. An optimist with a balanced outlook, Vincent enjoyed getting out or gathering with friends and loved ones, especially when great food was involved. Vincent adored music and theatre his entire life. He played the trumpet 5th - 12th grade and received a multitude of scholarships, including a scholarship for playing the trumpet. Growing up in the church, he was quite fond of singing, as well. You could always count on Vincent to sing solo or with his quartet group. He had a passion for all things Whitney Houston; her beloved voice was known to many, but to say Vincent was her biggest fan is truly an understatement. He also traveled throughout his life, both with his parents and through his job, and brought joy to all who knew him. Vincent passed April 2, 2020, much too young at the age of 40.

He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Curtis Edwards Jr. and Vinita L. Edwards (Wichita); siblings Vernon L. Pyles and wife Brenda (Sugar Land, Texas), Curtis Edwards III, Demareo Baldwin and Carrie Edwards (all of Wichita); best friend Leigh Ann Lawrie (Columbia, MD); and a host of family and friends. His warm smile, infectious laugh and kind spirit will be missed by all.
