Dear Adelio, Hetty, Joseph, Maria Cristina and Rayssa,

There are no words that we can find to console you for Victor’s untimely passing.
We never met Victor of course but through this very moving obituary and through what Katherine told us about him and Rayssa, we feel that we know him already and love him with Rayssa.
Unfortunately, life does not give us these choices of what is next and maybe deep in his heart, he knew that something was going on and he went ahead and spent another special evening with the love of his life, Ryassa. Yes, there is some consolation to know that he left after a special evening where he and Rayssa expressed to each other how strong their love was.
Victor seems to have impacted his community so much in his life and we don’t doubt that he is loved by so many from his family to his friends and to everyone he touched in his life. Maybe he is no longer with us physically but his spirit is alive and strong in the heart of each one of you.
Katherine will be with you and will represent us all at Victor’s Funeral .
We keep you all in our prayers and we pray that God gives you all the strength to accept Victor’s passing.

I met Victor when we were fourteen and I knew immediately he was so special. I really feel I got to know him when we both did internships in New York City over the summer of 2007. We would meet up for dinners and walks and talk about all our plans for the future.

Ever since, he has been a true friend. Despite living in two different countries we have remained in close contact, meeting when either was in the country and writing messages often with how our lives were progressing.

I am comforted we wrote to each other a few days before his passing and to know he was so happy. I will remember and cherish the lovely times we spent together. I feel privileged to have known him, even if it was not for long enough.

My condolences and love to the entire Castillo Simoes family. One of my earliest memories of knowing Victor was early freshman year at Wake Forest with his sister, MC. I recall feeling so in awe of the brotherly adoration Victor had for MC, and it was obvious even from afar how much he cared and doted on his little sister. During one of MC’s most stressful semesters in early college, Victor called her everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, sending resume revisions and internship applications (including notes and homework items!) to consider. Victor was relentless in making sure his sister was taken care of and set up for success. Of the few times I had the pleasure of seeing Victor with his family, his gentle and loving spirit was unguarded and on full, impressive display. May his memories and love surround his family and beloved friends forever.
