Tina McElroy Ansa was an award-winning author of several novels, including Baby of the Family, Ugly Ways, and The Hand I Fan With, all set in the fictional town of Mulberry, a community influenced by Macon, GA, where she was born and raised. After graduating Spelman College in 1971, Tina became a journalist, writing doula, and supporter of the vast number of "good lil schoolgirls".
