Tina's obituary
Tina McElroy Ansa was an award-winning author of several novels, including Baby of the Family, Ugly Ways, and The Hand I Fan With, all set in the fictional town of Mulberry, a community influenced by Macon, GA, where she was born and raised. After graduating Spelman College in 1971, Tina became a journalist, writing doula, and supporter of the vast number of "good lil schoolgirls". Founder of the Sea Island Writers Retreat, publisher of DownSouth Press, storyteller, public speaker, podcaster, an editor and an avid gardener, she was a lover of writers and writing, she instructed writing workshops at Spelman College, Emory University, and Coastal Georgia Community College. Tina was deeply dedicated to Jonee' Ansa, her husband of 43 years who passed in 2020, and she loved her family, her community, and she was a friend to more people than we can possibly imagine. She is proceeded in death by her parents Walter and Nellie McElroy, her siblings, Charles McElroy, Walter McElroy, and Marian Kerr. She is survived by her last living sibling, Cynthia "Faye" Jackson, God-daughter Zora, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, good lil schoolgirls", and her long-time college roommate, co-author and podcast creator, Wanda Lloyd.
