I am heartbroken to read this news. I met Shawn on the very first day I arrived at Dartmouth. I had never seen the campus before arriving freshman week and it was intimidating. Shawn was so friendly to me. He always asked how I was doing and offered friendly encouragement. He was always self-effacing and told me how hard he found foreign languages (I was a French TA) but then he discovered Mandarin and he found that it suited him. We kept in touch over FB but I had urged him to come to our reunion in June 2023. He never revealed that he was sick, just said he couldn’t come. I am sad that I never got to see him again. My condolences to his beloved family. May his memory be a blessing ❤️
Sean and I had a couple close mutual friends, so I saw him nearly every year for birthday parties. He was always the most positive, cheery, generous person in the room.
After I became a dad, we often chatted about kids, and he was always so inspirational in his example, and gave me a lot of encouragement and advice.
Shawn I will never forget the kind funny awesome runner who always had words of positivity. Erika Mr and Ms O’Neil please except my profound sympathies know your son and brother will never be forgotten by all who had the privilege of meeting him
I knew Shawn only briefly in 2009 - 10 via the Hash House Harriers. He was a wonderful man, filled to the absolute brim with energy. He was one of the few people that I've ever met who radiated joy. I lost my own father far too young to cancer as well, and my heart goes out completely to Shawn's family.
