Dr. Ramaswamy was my PhD advisor for many years, and was a mentor since before I started graduate school. It was through these years of working together that I got to see his ingenuity, his passion for science, and his drive to help those in need with his work. To say that he was an incredible person would be an understatement. Thank you, Dr. Ramaswamy, for believing in me and your other students so strongly, for pushing us to do our best always, for motivating us to make a positive impact on this world. I think we're all better people for having known you. Mallika, Jayram, and Samhita, my heart is with all of you.

Dearest Brother,
Words are not enough to pay a tribute to you. You are such a bright star, a loving human being who has touched the lives of many around you. Your jokes and fun-loving nature, your calm presence, your wisdom and education to give to your students and peers, your humble nature despite your many qualifications are all remarkable qualities.
Most of all, I have seen you as my big brother, protecting me when I needed it, offering your hand and time to comfort me, and celebrating by my side throughout my many milestones.
Growing up together in Singapore, annoying the hell out of each other but after pigging out with our favourite food (yes roti prata) making silly jokes and laughing hard are all the childhood memories i will cherish. We ended up in different countries having different paths, but our brother-sister bond remained strong.
You fought the battle hard, bro. I am at peace knowing you are no longer suffering. You are one brave and warmly lit human, and I will take comfort in our many treasured memories together. Love you forever and you will live in my heart…till we meet again. Keep shining bright always ✨⭐️🩷

I participated in karate class with Sharan for many years. I was devastated today to learn of his terrible illness and passing. Sharan was humble, brilliant, kind, and of generous spirit. I'm so shocked but remembering his warm and welcoming energy always. May he rest in peace and may his legacy live on in everyone he touched.

I was shocked to hear about the untimely demise of Sharan Ramaswamy and pray for his soul to rest in peace. I still remember when Sharan first walked into my office as he joined my laboratory as a graduate student. He was very passionate in pursuing a career as a biomedical engineer working on problems in the human cardiovascular system. He received his doctoral degree in 2023 with his major contribution in modeling blood flow in the human coronary arteries. He was a very hard-working student and always had a positive attitude in life. Vanaja and I still remember Mallika and he coming to our house in Iowa City soon after they got married.
After postdoctoral training, he joined as a faculty member at FIU and soon established his own laboratory pursuing research on regeneration in pediatric heart valves. I visited with him at FIU in 2016 and he proudly showed around his laboratory, and I also met with his graduate students. Within a few years, he had established himself as a premier researcher and educator.
At a personal level, he was fun loving and was proud of his family. I am very proud to have been his mentor during his graduate studies at Iowa. Vanaja and I will always cherish the memories of our interactions with Sharan and Mallika during their stay in Iowa City.

Venky & I are deeply saddened by the loss of this brilliant mind and gentle soul called Sharan. It is so unfortunate and unfair that he and his loved ones had to endure the harsh ravage of this merciless, unrelenting disease. It is an irreparable loss for Mallika, Jayram and Samhita and We sincerely pray for their peace and wellbeing. Warm hugs to all of you. Shishir too sends his love!

My Chithappa,
When I was a kid I didn't get much time to interact with him but as I got into my teen-age and all of my 20s, the bond I've made with him was really special - from playing and watching different sports like cricket and football to seeing his inner foodie come out whenever he came to India. We loved exploring the best of food and drove around for long drives with Samhi, Jayram, My Chithi and the others. Not to forget the lame fun jokes that chithappa, jayram and me used to crack and laugh non stop like kids.
His love, kindness and generosity is something that grew on me over the past decade and a half and every memory I've had with him is something I will treasure. Love you Sharan Chithappa. I'm sure you'll pick up a new sport to play up there in heaven now while you watching on all of us here!
Missing my Chithi (Malli), Jayram, Samhi and Amama a bit more today, wish I could be there right now. Sending them the tightest of hugs, love and strength from thousands of miles. Can't wait to meet them soon.
