Hi Mallika, Samhi, Jayaram, please accept my sincere condolences.
I knew Sharan for more than 20 years. I remember him for his spirited chats on football, how much he loved a prata at the local Mamak shop in Singapore, and how happy he was being in Singapore with his buddies. I reckon it was the Dempsey Hill Samy's Curry that he loved so dearly, some thing which puzzled me at first. It took me a bit of time to realise what an institution it is for true-blue Singaporeans. I have since come to relish it myself and still do.
In Bangalore, I always think of our debates over science. It was hard to beat him as he always had the data and facts at hand. A true man of science.
One of my best memories is when he visited and stayed with us in Perth, Australia. The way he cuddled Arya and spoke to her when she was just six months old was something special. The look in his eyes as something I cannot describe. It was like he was talking to the goodness of life itself. He cooked every chance he got, and made a paneer curry for Isha that was the best.
So many strong, vivid memories to pick from. Just so many.
But I keep going back to when I first met him, young blood at the James Power Station pub in Singapore, absolutely buzzing. Great food, drinks flowing. This chap got a beer and a massive meat Murtabak. I was vegetarian back then and was shocked! Football on, EPL playing, screens all around, the place was electric. It didn’t take even 10 minutes for me to realise that this is my brother!
He was so easygoing, non-judgmental, fact-driven and I couldn’t even argue when he told me in Perth that he voted for Trump. :)
Let’s just leave it at this: Sharan was the best bloke I have known in my close circle. He’s in a perfect place, which is in his family’s heart.
Life circulates.
