My heartfelt condolences to Dr. Ramaswamy’s family. I am deeply saddened by his passing. He was an incredible professor and mentor, and such an inspiring person. It was a true privilege to be part of his lab and to learn from him. His guidance, kindness, passion, and encouragement made a lasting impact on my life. I will be forever grateful to him. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. May his family find peace and strength during this difficult time.
Mallika, Our deepest condolences to you and family !!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you to regain lot of strength,  during this difficult time.
Our deepest condolences to you and kids Mallika.
It was heartbreaking to experience this tremendous loss. Sharan and I had been guest editing a special issue for Bioengineering journal last two year. I did not realize he had been working on those while battling such a debilitating disease. When Mallika helped reply his email, saying he was on medical leave in November of 2024, I was still anticipating he would be back a few months later... I knew Sharan from 2006 when both of us working in Michael's lab. Since then, we have been experiencing good things and challenges that are always associated with research/academic. Sharan is such a great person and scholar. He has great talent, accomplishments, passion, and diligence in research and education. It was great pleasures every time we saw each other in conferences or visual meetings. His smiles, optimism, friendship, and gentle manner always lifted us no matter whatever we were facing. I am too dull to know his health challenges at an early time. Thinking about what Sharan, Mallika, and their family have fought through over the past three years, I’ve come to realize just how brave Sharan was. We love you, miss you deeply, and will always be proud of you, Sharan.

Diwali — with Jorge Riera, Ranu Jung, Anu Godavarty, Raj Pulugurtha and Sharan Ramaswamy

A very thoughtful and caring person, Sharan was a very dedicated professor, an outstanding mentor to graduate and undergraduate students, as well as high school students; his legacy will live on with all that he taught them, not just technical matter (as evidenced by several winning Outstanding Student awards), but a passion for discovery and science.  An inspiration for all.

I will also remember the fun Diwali event the family held at their home.

Mallika - to you and the kids - years full of strength and knowledge that Sharan has made a difference in the lives of many.

Hi Mallika, Samhi, Jayaram,  please accept my sincere condolences.

I knew Sharan for more than 20 years. I remember him for his spirited chats on football, how much he loved a prata at the local Mamak shop in Singapore, and how happy he was being in Singapore with his buddies. I reckon it was the Dempsey Hill Samy's Curry that he loved so dearly, some thing which puzzled me at first. It took me a bit of time to realise what an institution it is for true-blue Singaporeans. I have since come to relish it myself and still do.

In Bangalore, I always think of our debates over science. It was hard to beat him  as he always had the data and facts at hand. A true man of science.

One of my best memories is when he visited and stayed with us in Perth, Australia. The way he cuddled Arya and spoke to her when she was just six months old was something special. The look in his eyes as something I cannot describe. It was like he was talking to the goodness of life itself. He cooked every chance he got, and made a paneer curry for Isha that was the best.

So many strong, vivid memories to pick from. Just so many.

But I keep going back to when I first met him, young blood at the James Power Station pub in Singapore, absolutely buzzing. Great food, drinks flowing. This chap got a beer and a massive meat Murtabak. I was vegetarian back then and was shocked! Football on, EPL playing, screens all around, the place was electric. It didn’t take even 10 minutes for me to realise that this is  my brother!

He was so easygoing, non-judgmental, fact-driven and  I couldn’t even argue when he told me in Perth that he voted for Trump. :)

Let’s just leave it at this: Sharan was the best bloke I have known in my close circle. He’s in a perfect place, which is in his family’s heart.

Life circulates.

My dear cousin who was like an elder brother to me. Growing up in India, I always looked forward to his annual visits. He played the peacemaker and kept us younger ones in check. Even though he grew up in Singapore, he always stayed close to his roots, speaking multiple South Indian languages and learning Carnatic music. I had the pleasure of visiting him and Mallika in Baltimore and excited to see his research lab. I will always treasure these happy memories and remember him for his warmth, humility and kindness. He will be deeply missed. My heartfelt condolences to Mallika and the kids.

Where to start. I am at a loss of words. Dr. Ramaswamy was the best PI, instructor, mentor and friend. He is the one who kept my love and spark for research alive. I was so fortunate to do my PhD with him. I will never forget all the memories we shared and the amazing research we did together. I am where I am today because of him, I cannot thank him enough. He will be truly missed. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his family.

I had the honor of working with Dr. Ramaswamy during my PhD working on the most amazing project ever, creating tissue engineered heart valves for pediatric patients, which we implanted in baboons.
I was very sad on the passing away of Sharan. I knew him as the husband of Mallika whom I knew from her childhood.                                                            .                                                         The few times I met him, I found him to be a gentle, articulate & a highly knowledgeable person.                                               His unique qualification as a Biomedical Engineer made him somebody special.       My Heartfelt Condolences to Mallika, Jayram & Samhita.
My time at FIU overlapping with Sharan was brief, but I still had the pleasure of meeting him and his beautiful family when Sharan and Mallika invited my family for a Diwali celebration at their home in 2022. I remember a warm, loving, and welcoming home. I hope and wish the love and strength of the family will keep them going with such a big loss. My deepest condolences.
