I worked with Sara in the past. She was such an amazing an dynamic woman, I was honored to know her. My heart goes out to her family. She will be so dearly missed.
I did not know Sara well. I had only met her a couple of times through Hi-Fi, Women Grow, and the wild adventure that is the Oregon cannabis market. She was certainly on my list of "women I look up to" and I marveled at her calm, cool confidence jam-packed with wisdom and enthusiasm. Sending so much love and moments of peace to her loved ones. Grief is but love with no place to go....and I'm sure Sara's memory and influence will provide a wellspring of inspiration for ways to honor her legacy and transmute pain into passion.

The first time I heard Sara speak, I thought, "Wow, I want to be like her!" I never would have guess she would become a mentor, a member of our company's board and most importantly a friend. I'm not eloquent enough to properly honor her with words but I know, we couldn't morn her loss unless we honored her presence in all of our lives. I think, the number of people who loved and will miss her is the greatest testimony there can be.
I met Sara Batterby in 2017. I had attended the National Cannabis Industry Association's Summit (my first one) held in Oakland. I started to think about raising money, knowing I had no idea how to raise cannabis money. Sara was a featured speaker, her topic, how to raise money in the cannabis industry. She was dynamic, intelligent, down to earth and fiercely knowledgeable. I wanted to know her. I waited after the workshop to meet her in person, but there was a line, 30 people deep, to get to her, so I jotted down her email and moved on.

Two weeks later, I wrote to her about our company, my journey, our hopes for our place in the cannabis industry and asked her to be my mentor. I went back and read that email today and her response, which was so gracious, generous, and genuine. Sara did become my mentor, my cheerleader, and my friend. I would not be where I am today in the cannabis industry if she had not taught me, selflessly, everything she knew. She was a force of nature not only to me but to all the women and women of color cannabis entrepreneurs that she taught during her lifetime. Our cannabis community has lost a powerhouse. I will miss her so very much.

Rest in power, my friend.

It was an honor to know Sara. Every encounter with her was energizing. I’m forever grateful for her wisdom.”

Gone From My Sight
By Luther Beecher

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze,
and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch her until she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to meet and mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says:
“There! She’s gone!”

Gone where? Gone from my sight—that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side,
and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination.

Her diminished size is in me and not in her.

And just at that moment when someone at my side says:
“There! She’s gone!”

there are other eyes that are watching for her coming

and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:

“Here she comes!”

Every once in a while we would talk about the world, the Universe and about maybe doing something together. Every big life event we would update each other about what was going on. Once in a while we would look each other up wherever we were in the world and laugh, talk, walk and dream. I will miss you my love and keep chasing dreams for a better world where you left us behind. A rare and beautiful soul. You will be missed and loved forever. ❤️ )*( ❤️ M
It’s so hard to take this in. We just spoke on Friday. What an incredible loss to us all. Seems only the good die young. She was so intuitive and articulate, smart and caring.

She taught entrepreneurs, mostly female and minority (but sometimes even white guys) how to realize our worth and our business’ worth. But more than that she taught us that we’re all fragile, imperfect and extraordinary human beings and to conduct ourselves as such in our business dealings and always.

She was absolutely brilliant been so beautiful.. What a tragedy. There’s a big empty hole in my heart right now.

Sara, we love you and miss you already.
I, like so many it seems, only knew Sara in quick bursts and it was all too brief in the bigger scheme. We had plans to get up to some really good trouble together and today I'm grieving that it will not be.

Thank you Hannah for sharing the glorious shining soul of Sara with me. A heartbreaking loss for the world. Sending peace and love to everyone close to her who is feeling the chasm of loss.

❤️
This is such a shock, Sara thank you for everything you have done in support of women and minority entrepreneurs. You will be greatly missed ❤️
