I was so sorry to hear about Ronald's passing. He was such a dedicated person, who contributed significantly to main topics in career counseling.
In person, I can only think of times when Ronald made me and others smile and feel valued. In his writing and work, I can only think of times Ronald changed our sector for the better.  Ronald, you'll be missed.
Ronald was an important intellectual influence who kept publishing fresh and relevant work. But most of all he was humane, empathetic and someone with a deep concern for the creation of a fairer and more just society. I will miss him a lot. My sympathies and best wishes are with his family and close friends.

I am truly sorry and so shocked to hear of the sudden death of the wonderful Ron Sultana. We met firstly around a decade and a half ago at an EU Committee meeting and stayed in touch afterwards. At the EU Committee meeting, Ron stood out with his wisdom rather than simply following formulaic comments. His warmth, generosity and good humour, combined with his exceptional intellect and his capacity for countercultural thinking, to see around corners and challenge conventional wisdom are rare qualities. Any time I would meet someone from Malta, almost everyone knew Ron. He was a giant presence in the field of education and such a lovely person. My sincere condolences to his family.

It is truly disheartening to receive the news of Professor Sultana's unexpected passing. He was a luminary in the field of career guidance, leaving an indelible mark through his profound contributions. His insightful evaluations of career guidance services and unwavering commitment to a social justice perspective have been pivotal, reshaping the landscape of career development.

Professor Sultana's compassionate understanding of individuals facing vulnerability has served as a beacon of inspiration for myself and countless practitioners globally. His legacy extends beyond the professional realm, leaving a lasting impact on fostering inclusive and equitable approaches to career development.

I had the privilege of attending a virtual event where Professor Sultana delivered a keynote address that was not only thought-provoking but also deeply resonant. Upon expressing my interest in his presentation, he graciously shared his slides via email, showcasing his generosity and dedication to advancing the field.

As we reflect on Professor Sultana's life and work, he will be remembered with fondness, and his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and benefit all of us who have had the honor of being influenced by his wisdom and contributions.

I extend my heartfelt condolences, both personally and on behalf of the Indian Association for Career and Livelihood Planning (IACLP), to the grieving family.

Cher Ronald,

A Roseline, à tes enfants mes affectueuses pensées attristées.

Toni

I didn't know Ronald very well but met him in person a couple of times in work settings and appreciated him very much as a person and researcher within the career field. He was a role model in terms of first and foremost being a human being and having distance to his position and influence. Intelligence and humor are two sides of the same coin - he was that coin.

Ronald taught me to consider the communities around the Mediterranean as peoples with shared experiences and aspirations. He was a role model for researchers who persistently seek out diverse perspectives and treat each one with the utmost respect. He created a legacy in academic community building and meaningful co-creation.

I will miss him dearly. I wish his whole family courage and strength.

With all my love,

Ronald was a great thinker and one of the few researchers who argued against the prevailing competence discourse, currently dominating policy, and research in our field in Denmark and other European countries. Earlier this year I had a long email conversation with him about the increased focus on career competencies and how this contributes to individualise and decontextualize career questions. He shared my scepticism regarding the assumption that the acquisition of certain competencies can enable individuals to govern and control their careers. He stressed the need for international discussions about the relationship between career education and career guidance and he shared my concern about the future of individual guidance, which in countries like DK and UK, are about to be wiped out.

It is a great loss to the career community, that he has passed away and his critical voice will be missed!

This was hard to hear let alone accept; prof. Sultana's work has been so influential to my thinking and will forever be grateful for it. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, may his memory be eternal.

As a National correspondent of IAEVG and a Board member of The Latvian Career Development Support association (LKAAA) - I amsending my condolences to professor’s family and loved ones. It was great to have an opportunity to meet him personally in Paris and Bratislava’s conferences. Ronald Sultana’s charisma, gravitas, wisdom and power to create continuous impact have changed perceptions, turned around biases and most important - shaped international Career Guidance community to the level where we dare to be vocal and create impact globally.

Rest in peace, dear professor! 🙏

It is with great sorrow that I heard the so distressing news about the loss of Prof Ronald Sultana. No words can express my admiration for his personality, his thought, his scientific legacy and his approachability. All these qualities of such an exceptional person will live on in our memory always to draw us into something better.

With deep condolences,

Marianna Papastephanou

I am deeply saddened to learn that Prof. Ronald Sultana passed away suddenly at the age of 65.

I can't believe that Ronald is gone! His legacy will stay!

I have known him since the late 90s when he collaborated with us in Romania for the VET transformation! Then, he was so close to ETF that many considered him to be from the ETF team. And I think that's how I felt. He was one of us! The enthusiasm and interest with which he accepted the dialogue, the challenge of a new attempt encouraged you to share his thoughts, sometimes conflicting, and to debate. He was one of those who encouraged the satisfaction of a fulfillment after effort and perseverance, after the trust that together we will succeed. Thank you, our dear Ronald!

My condolences to Ronald's family.

Ronald Sultana was a great leader as he taught us to think critically about the world around us and the socio-political influences on people's career development. Ronald's writing was provocative and he has inspired many professionals and friends.
I still cannot come to terms with your loss Ronald. Thank you for being an inspiration and for believing in me. Always in our hearts. Condolences to his family members whom he loved greatly 🌹💔

It is with a great sadness and regret that we received the informaton of the death of Prof. Ronald G. Sultana. Please accept our sincere condolences. Researchers gathered around the activities of the Counsellogical Association had been working with the Professor for many years, and often referred to the Professor's publications, analyzes and expertise, citing the results of his research in the pages of Studia Poradoznaczne/Journal of Counsellogy. Professor Ronald G. Sultana had challenged and inspired young researchers. We remain in mourning and good memories the Professor and in the publications that the Professor left us.

I first met Ronald when he gave the iCeGS Annual lecture in 2008, he spoke then about policy borrowing and the implications of this for career guidance. This is a theme I have often referred to in my own work.  I have had the great pleasure to meet him and listen to him many time since then. I have always left our encounters with increased knowledge and many more questions. I have been inspired by his work, his passion for career guidance and how it can contribute to social justice. He will be greatly missed by all of us within the career sector, but his writing will continue to inform our work and future thinking for decades to come.  Thank you Ronald.
There are no words to convey the stunned disbelief of so many of us when we first heard of Ronald's death. His influence was - and remains - enormous, but the twinkle in his eye and ready word of friendship and encouragement will be so sadly missed.

Back in 2008, I had the pleasure of introducing Ronald as the keynote speaker at the International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGs) Annual Lecture series. He presented 'Career Guidance Policies: Global Dynamics, Local Resonances' This seminal work is as relevant today as it was back then e.g. lessons learned from lending and borrowing policies- you might like to read his lecture notes - https://www.researchgate.net/…

As we begin a new research study on national careers support services of 16 countries across Europe, Israel, and New Zealand, on behalf of the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland Careers Service, Ronald's wisdom and astute observations will inform our thinking - thank you, dear Ron. We are thinking of you, your wife and extend our sincere condolences to all your family and friends during this sad and difficult time.

Professor Ronald Sultana was an inspiration for researchers and practitioners in the field of career guidance all over the world and his legacy will continue to inspire our field.

Sincere condolences of Romanian colleagues to his family!

May he rest in peace!

Humanistyczne prace prof. Sultany dostarczały wiedzy o poradnictwie zawodowym różnych krajów, poszerzały horyzonty, uwrażliwiały na społeczne nierówności i niesprawiedliwość. Z głębokim smutkiem przyjęłam wiadomość o Jego odejściu, Mnie i nam wszystkim będzie Go bardzo brakowało.
