I unfortunately do not have any photos but I am blessed to have been introduced to Mel. That’s what he told me to call him. He is a good man we learned from each other in the short time we knew each other, we both shared similar interests in our crafts. You will be missed my friend.....Until we meet again...
He was such a kind and true hearted,
Type of person. And a craftsman,
He will. Be missed
Melvin G Parris, "The Wood Dr.", was a real craftsman. But he never just did excellent work for us. He always blessed us with sharing his love for and relationship with our Heavenly Father, who he so easily called "Daddy" while talking to him as he worked around here. We will miss his physical presence and warm embrace but are so thankful to God for the blessing of his friendship and being one in the Spirit of our Lord Jesus.
Rev. Bro. Melvin was a seemingly tireless but definitely passionate servant of Christ who loved all people. He served with love of family, the saints, his community, and the lost who were in need of a personal relationship with Jesus. Only God knows the true measure of his impact on so many lives. We send our love and prayers to the entire family as you go through this period of loss knowing that Rev. Bro. Melvin has received his rest and ultimate gain.
To the family of the late Elder Melvin G. Parris, Sr, my deepest condolences in the loss of your husband, father, brother, friend. The Yonkers Tabernacle of Prayer will forever remember him with his acts of love and kindness.
Always, Overseer Christine McKeithan.
We are achingly full of sorrow that Melvin left us so early in his life. But we are filled with joy that he is with Jesus, our loving Savior! We will pray continually that Jesus will fill the void of this terrible loss for the family especially for Dewana his beloved wife.
My husband Jamie and I have known Melvin over 40 years. During that time he has helped us build our home, painted many times, and has ministered to my six children and the two of us all the time. We have so many fun memories of Melvin. One of the terms that Melvin used when he would help us move furniture and pick up lumber at the store and things like this was “melbonicks”! No matter how large or bulky these items were he would fit them in his van. It was so funny. One time one of our skylights broke and it was late at night and I think there was a storm, and Melvin was over in less than a half an hour to help us clean it up and put a covering over the outside so that the elements couldn’t come in through the open window. This is how he was when anything happened to the house or with one of our children, Melvin was there to help us! Oh how we loved Melvin! I could fill pages with all of the different things that Melvin did for us and with us!! He will be missed forever!

Melvin was a dear friend and brother in the Lord, and he always had a good word from Jesus to share. He was in our wedding party in Yonkers in 1989. I will miss Melvin terribly. I am very blessed, though, to know that he is now face-to-face with Jesus in heaven. Melvin, we love you! We will see you soon in glory! We are praying for the family during this difficult time. God bless, all.
I send all my love and condolences to the family. Losing a parent is so hard but I hope that the assurance of seeing our Reverend Melvin again brings you an abundance of peace. His legacy runs deep with you, his beautiful family; your ongoing lives will honor his and all that he gave us!

My condolences to you and your family. I met your father few years back at a low point in my life. Your father prayed with us, he quoted scriptures and constantly prayed with my family over the years. He did prison ministries and we became involved by volunteering with him at times. Every thanksgiving his ministry would cook and fellowship with the men in the shelter up in Valhalla NY. Christmas time
Rev Parris’s and his fellow volunteers would donates much, bringing clothes and toys to children in need. He put God first, he encouraged everyone to pray and to build a relationship with God; more importantly to have faith in God. He was a like a huge tree that gave shelter to others. He will be truly missed
Bro Melvin was one of the first people to pray for my husband’s salvation when I arrived at YCA and was there when he finally gave his life to Christ. He continued to minister to both me and my husband and was a key component in our spiritual growth. He was always willing to lend a hand whenever we needed him. I will always remember his “A-oh” and “Praise Jesus” whenever we spoke of biblical truth. May God grant comfort to his family knowing he is in the Lord’s presence ❤️
I respectfully give honor to God as I send my condolences to the widow and all members of our departed beloved brother and friend Rev. Melvin.
May the Lord comfort us all in these times. Our brother is much missed.
Thanks, Brother David
Condolences to the family. Melvin's love of reaching the lost and the radiance of his light will continue to shine bright; a great reflection of Jesus
