We had the honor of meeting M…
2019
We had the honor of meeting Mathew during his Interrail trip with Stuart. After a fun evening in Ghent, we met the two again a few weeks later in Prague. There, we shared some of the funniest nights with Mathew—we rarely laughed as much as we did then. Even years later, we still often talk about those moments. Mathew’s humorous, compassionate, helpful, and kind-hearted nature will always remain in our memories. We wish strength and comfort to everyone who knew and loved Mathew. To the family, Rick and I (Judy), Kip Badgery's parents, are devastated by Matt's passing. So many memories through Kip of our respective sons' hockey games, bday parties, soccer, shinny, school stuff, outdoor trips, Halloweening etc. Our deepest condolences to all of you. "Jobin" will be so missed.

We are heartbroken that Mat has left this world behind.  His bright spirit and love of life will be sorely missed.  The only consolation is that he was one of the rare few that lived life to its fullest each day and packed more “living” into his short time than most of us manage to accomplish.  It is clear that he leaves behind not only his beloved family but also a wide group of close friends & colleagues that will keenly feel his absence for a long time.  We hope that your pain & grief will gradually be replaced by happy memories of an extraordinary man living his life in the best possible way

We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to your family. Even at a young age Mat was an inspiration. We hope you find peace in his memories. ❤️

We only got to hang out with Mat a few times, but even in those few meetings he came across as such a chill yet adventurous guy. Through Alex and Kailey we would get to hear about the latest Jobin family gathering or the next excursion the brothers had planned. The Jobins are such a special, close-knit family and this is a devastating loss. Our thoughts are with you.

Some 10am beers and bratwursts with the fellas in Munich, Germany. Part of an unbelievable Joby & Stu Western Europe tour that included adventures with Kip (sorry for the mid-bite shot), Courtney, Eric, and Christian. 8 countries, 6 weeks, and countless memories.

Atop Sarrail Ridge after a late-summer hike with friends. To my knowledge, this was in and around the time Mat found his passion for hiking. I complained the entire way up (it was a steep ascent), but he seemed to love every second of it. He would tell me years later he found enjoyment and satisfaction in the suffering of a grueling hike or ski tour skinning, because it was the price paid for conquering the challenge, and the view at the top or the ski down made the price well worth paying. I really appreciated his framing, and have endeavored to think about things in that light since.

One of many long resort skiing days with Matt and I. We were the only ones that liked the ascent (bootpacking) almost as much as the descent

Matt was such a smart, hilarious and kind guy! He made my high school experience feel safer and always had a smile on his face. Despite  not being close over the years since graduating, every opportunity to reconnect was a reminder of how special Matt was. He was so committed to the things he loved and the people he loved. I really admired Matt’s work ethic and warm disposition. To the Jobin family, I am so tremendously sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you.
Neil, Kim and Family, we are so sorry to hear about Mathew's passing.  We can't imagine what you are going through.  I can see from the other memories posted here Matt had a lot of friends and loved his work and play time.  May the happy memories with Mathew carry you through.  Our sincere condolences. Nothing better than playing hockey with your best friends. Mat and I were linemates in hockey, and i’ve never had chemistry with someone in any sport like we had in our seasons together. He was an incredible passer, and was always able to find me on the ice, a sixth sense developed from countless hours at the ODR (outdoor rink) and lunch time floor hockey at school alongside Stu, Christian, Pierce, Eric, and Johnny. We were always the last ones out of the dressing room because we always had something to yap about, much to the frustration of our parents.

Sending my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the Jobin family.

I met Mat when I started at TC 5 years ago. I started virtually during COVID but I remember Mat's voice being one of the kindest and friendliest when he was on-boarding all of us new EITs, always assuring us that we'd be ok as we stepped into our new roles. A couple years later we both ended up on the same team again and he became a constant source of energy and joy. He was always up for a chat, and even a quick hello and smile as I passed by him would brighten my day. Most recently, we went out for a team build and during our lunch, Mat and I reminisced on our project days, becoming full-fledged engineers, and just talked about life in general. It's a memory I'll hold on to and am grateful to have.

Mat, you'll be missed so much.

Mat, thank you for being such a valued member of our team. Your cheerfulness and positive energy brought a smile to every meeting. I appreciated how you shared your knowledge, and your humbleness in learning new things. You will be deeply missed.

My deepest sympathies and condolences for Mat’s family and close friends.

I met Mat up on a TC Energy project where he was the project EIT. We were stuck in a camp north of Manning AB and the most fun you can have is rousing the new kids. Well Mat was no exception to this and I’d pile the work on him but he always came back at me with a smile and undeniable work ethic. I was fortunate enough to get to spend time with him and hear about his old junker car he had at the time, his antidotes for curing a hangover and his unwavering love for the outdoors. I continued to run into Mat after that tour of duty and can say that every time our paths crossed he’d shoot that big grin and say hello.

When I heard of this today it saddened me so much to hear of such a wonderful young man being taken far too soon.

Mat, your smile and messy hair will be forever in my memory. I’m honoured to even say I was a friend.

Jobin was one of the first friends I made attending a new high school. There was something so genuine about him chirping you in gym class and then willingly sharing his mom’s famous wax paper sealed muffins with you in chem. Jobin had a steadiness to him that would put people at ease and made them feel like they didn’t have to strive around him. He had an infectious laugh, took such good care of his things and even better care of those he loved. I’m extremely devastated to hear of his passing and am deeply sorry for such an immense loss. His light continues to illuminate, especially when a fresh bag of veggie straws is broken into, or when one is simple caught mesmerized at the majesty of the mountains. It was the highest honour to have known you and your family, Jobin. Thank you for everything.
