I miraculously snapped this photo even though I was laughing so hard I could barely stand. I had a karaoke birthday party and was told that it would take a lot for the boys to sing a song, but when Jobes (as we call him) made a surprise appearance and signed them all up to sing “Down Under” by the Australian band Men at Work, they obliged happily. They surrounded Jobes, singing their hearts out and putting on an unforgettable and hilarious performance, which was just a small testament to their beautiful friendship. I will cherish this memory forever ❤️

One thing I always really appreciated about Mat was that between the fun and the laughs he provided so many moments of deep introspection, comfortable silences, and sincere meaningful conversation. Like this morning where we woke up in the dark to watch the sun rise over the bugaboos. I have a whole lot of pictures of Mat looking at mountains cause we did a whole lot of looking at mountains

Mat and the rest of the Golden Cooperative - he brought joy and a smile to every slo pitch match, no matter how big the loss. I know that’s how he approached life more broadly too. We will miss you Jobin.

2017
Mat had an infectious laugh and joy that spread to everyone in his presence. He was truly one of the nicest and best people around - never hesitating to help others before himself. He very generously helped me and others while studying and with assignments - he could always be counted on to be the most organized. I cherish the time we spent walking aimlessly around London, searching for any suitable patch of ice to play hockey on (he was the first person to teach me the term "ODR"). He could be counted on to get amped up during intramural ball and ice hockey games and let some chirps fly. When he started giggling, it was impossible not to join in. And wine nights with the boys - Mat always revealed his love for his friends after a drink or three (as if it wasn't already apparent). I was always an admirer of his iPad drawings - he was impressively talented. Most of all I'll remember how great of a friend he was and how much he was loved by everyone who got to know him. Heartbroken by his passing

On behalf of TC Energy, our deepest condolences are with the Jobin family, their friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Mat was a bright light and a top-class engineer within my team at TC Energy. His smile and presence always fueled the positivity of a room. He always loved to get his boots dirty and see his engineering in practice in the field. Him and I both enjoyed the backcountry, so most work conversations between us ended with us talking about adventures. Mat was an amazing person with an attitude that touched us all and our great memories of Mat will live strong with us here at TC Energy.
