Dear Alice and family,

My deepest sympathy to you and Markus' extended family and friends on his untimely passing. We already missed him when he left the Fund, where his impact was deep and far-reaching. I too benefitted from his wise guidance -- invariably delivered in a most engaging way, and with a witty turn of phrase. The IMF was a better place thanks to the countless contributions he made during his many years of service.

May your grief be lessened by the love and support of your family and friends, and by the sharing of fond memories of a remarkable life.

Yours sincerely,

Andrea Richter

It is so sad to lose Markus that early! I can imagine how you, Alice and the “children” feel. I myself lost my father, aged 65, for the same illness.
Markus was a empathic and strong personality. To lose a husband and father like him means to inherit his responsibility for the family and society. I am sure you will appreciate. I would be glad to give company whereever needed. Hannes

Dear Alice, We are so very sad and heartbroken to learn of your loss of your beloved Markus. We all have such fond memories of our girls playing soccer and basketball together cheering them on. Markus was always there with a warm smile and funny/ supportive comments for Camilla and her teammates.

He has left you too young and we will pray for God to help you through this very sad time. May Markus Rest In Peace free from his sickness and pain🙏🙏 He will watch over you from Heaven, as he did in his life💝

Much love, Cammy Caskin

Dear Alice,

My warmest thoughts are with you and your family. As others have said much more eloquently, Markus was someone who made an impact on all that knew him in all the best ways possible.  I hope these memories bring you some comfort.  His life was far too short but through our memories I believe his kind spirit endures.

Kate

Our sincerest condolences. Steve and I share in your grief.  Love to the entire family.
To the Rodlauer family my sincere condolences. I worked with Markus in WHD and he was always very pleasant to work with.

Dear Alice, Matias, Andres, and Camilla,

I am so sorry for your loss! I know how much you loved and adored Markus. May his love, guidance, and positivity continue and the memory of him stay strong within you.

Sending all our love,

Eva and Robin

Alice: que en paz descanse Markus. No me imagino la falta que les hará.  Como lo siento y te acompaño de todo corazón

Dear Alice, Matias, Andres and Camila:

I was deeply saddened to hear of Markus' passing. He showed such courage throughout his illness and we hoped his sheer determination and positive outlook would pull him through. It was a blessing he had strong family support during this difficult period, that you recently were able to enjoy a family visit to New England, and were all with him in his final days.

Markus was a wonderful friend and colleague. I particularly remember our many missions to the Philippines. Markus was highly respected by both his colleagues and the authorities. He was a top professional, a true gentleman, and always kept his cool and sense of humor. And that wonderful smile hardly ever left his face!

Haleem and I send our condolences to you during this sad and difficult time.

Margaret
