Dr. Heaney was a giant of a human being.  Walk softly and carry a big stick.  That was his impact on the world.

As someone who had interviewed Mark many times for patients I was so sad to learn of his sudden passing. He made a difference to so many as he researched, treated and educated. We at Patient Power loved having him be a resource for both MPN and SM patients and families. He will be missed!
Dr. Heaney was my husband’s doctor. He was just the best doctor either of us have ever had, listening, explaining, treating, and never impatient. Our hearts go out to his family. What an untimely loss. It is a bit demoralizing thinking we need to find someone to follow in his shoes in our continued health. We are so thankful to have met Dr. Heaney and we pray for his family, friends, and colleagues in their healing.
I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Heaney's passing.  I was a patient of his  for treatment of MCAS.   I was very impressed by his empathy, compassion and thoughtfulness.  He was a good listener and was very kind.

Mark was a wonderful human being, teacher and physician . It was a privilege to work and learn from him. A huge loss for all of us, his patients and science. My deepest condolences to his family

Eduardo Saponara M.D.

My deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Mark’s family. Mark was a very brilliant doctor and has touched so many lives. He was a very kind person and I know how much his patients loved him. Mark you are greatly missed by so many and I pray for your family at this time grieving your loss. Rest In Peace dear friend and colleague.
Sending our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mark's family, friends and colleagues. He was simply a good person and a pleasure to be around in addition to being a brilliant and exceptional physician. A good neighbor and friend, and always willing to help when you needed him most. Sending our love to Tone, Tommy, Kristen and Katie.

I was a patient of Dr. Heaney for the last several years for treatment of Mastocytosis. I am just devastated at this news. He was the most kind, compassionate, and empathetic doctor I’ve ever had. Whenever I would go into his office in tears, he would just listen and let me speak and calmly provide reassurance. I’ll really miss him and will be thinking of him and his family for a long time.
My heart is with Mark's family.  I first met Mark when the ECD Global Alliance was in its infancy.  Mark was such a supporter of the organization's mission, always offering his help and encouragement.  He was ever the gentleman, always the statesman.  Mark genuinely cared about patients and had such a knack for finding a simple solution to a complicated issue.  He will be missed greatly.  It has been a blessing and an honor to know him.  May his family find solace in knowing that Mark touched so many lives in such a profound way.  The world has lost a great physician and wonderful man.
I first met your father, husband and brother on July 19 of this year. I had been sick for nearly a year and no one knew what was wrong. After 3 biopsies and numerous exams and blood draws from all other specialists, I was referred to Dr. Heaney for a possible MCAS diagnosis. I was absolutely awestruck at not only how brilliant he was, but how soft-spoken, mild-mannered, compassionate and thoughtful. He let me talk about everything that had been going on and never interrupted. He gave me hope when I had none; when other doctors were telling me nothing could he done. He was a giant in his field and was clearly beloved by his staff. I was absolutely devastated when I learned of his passing. We were just trying an initial treatment plan when he passed. May your heavy hearts be lighter soon and may fond memories of him bring you comfort during this terrible time. Thank you for sharing Dr. Heaney with the rest of us. ❤️💔
Dr. Heaney treated my father with such care. He was a master in the space of Mastocytosis and was extremely empathetic. It’s hard to express how much he helped turn things around for our family and you were able to have 100% trust under his amazing care. Our family has met multiple doctors, and none have made an impact like Dr. Heaney. May his family be out at ease to know how much good he did during his time here and how many lives he not only touched, but saved. Giving our condolences, we are so sad to have lost him and pray he is resting in peace.
I am a patient. I am devastated by this news. He was a rare human being who elevated the practice of medicine and touched us all with his kindness and empathy. He set a high bar. Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He will live in the hearts of all of us. He has earned his seat in heaven.
My condolences to the family. As a person with ECD I am thankful for the time, energy, research, and compassion that was brought to the alliance through his work and legacy.
I want to extend my sincerest condolences to Dr. Heaney's family. I had the great pleasure of working with him for close to 3 years in one of the many positions he simultaneously held at Columbia University. I started at the Columbia IRB office supporting the ethical review of oncology research proposals, which he led as the IRB Chairperson. I will be forever grateful for his willingness to provide an exceptional recommendation for my graduate school application to Columbia. I will continue remembering him, his encouraging words and genuine charisma, as I move further in my career. May his beautiful soul rest in peace.

There were and are no words that can convey the loss of Dr. Heaney.  He not only was a top Doctor, Scientist - he was a genuine caring human being.  A rare gem in todays world.  My thoughts and prayers to his family.

I’m so sorry to hear of Dr. Heaney’s passing. He took my daughter on as a patient when we had lost hope. He was an extraordinarily kind and empathetic physician who advocated for my daughter and saved her life when she was at her worst.  I’m sure he will be greatly missed by so many. May his memory be a blessing.
Mark was one of the kindest and most intelligent people we have ever had the privilege of meeting. We consider ourselves lucky to have known him and we're sending you our love, prayers, and sympathy during this terrible time.
I met Dr. Heaney in 2010.  I was diagnosed with LGL, which is rare.  He was the consummate gentleman, and his compassionate demeanor and intellect allowed me to come to grips with the diagnosis.  I moved to Florida in 2013, and continued to visit NYC several times annually just to see him.  Over the years, if I had any medical condition arise, I sought his opinion over all others.  I will truly miss him so much. I’m sure his family is grieving but I want them to know what a profound influence he had on so many lives. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.  God bless.
My sincere condolences to Mark's family.  Mark was an inspiration and a friend to all of us who work in the specialty of leukemia and myeloid neoplasms, especially Erdheim-Chester disease.
