Maria, we miss you so very much. You were one of the strongest influences in our lives. We love you.
Happy Mother’s Day Marie…. You were a mother to all of us.  May we now carry a part of you in us, hoping to carry on the important work you lived. Miss you dearly and love you always. Carol

The legacy of Mrs. Allen will live on forever in my mind and my heart.  Our paths were destined to cross, and I often think about and miss the woman who was a mentor and a motherlike figure to me. Mrs. Allen was well aware of the source of her strength, faith, and the foundation upon which she stood. She was always concerned about others and their well-being. I would also like to add that Mrs. Allen was an immensely proud mother and grandmother. She revered self-improvement particularly through education and often inspired her children, grandchildren, and friends to become citizens of the world through travel, reading, international endeavors, or community service.

David and Stacey thank you for sharing your mom with me.

Marie B., the JOP ! (Justice of the Peace) — with Marie B Allen

I’m having a hard day today family!! My eyes have been wet since this morning when I remember the love and caring she always exhibited when I stopped by to see her.

I/we have truly been blessed to have had this matriarch of us all in our lives. How I will always miss her!!

In this excerpt from early 2021 Zoom interview, Marie speaks with love and admiration about her mother, Mary Frances Redmond Bolling, who lived her life with focus and determination to maintain her independence and raise her three daughters on her own.

That example of the value of hard work and giving to others, influenced Marie’s decisions about her own life path. She earned a Master’s degree in Administration and Management, and was the first person-of-color to work as a secretary at the University of Chicago, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. As a life-long community activist, she served as the Governor’s Appointee to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission from 1979 – 1999. She also participated in and led numerous community boards, including the Boston NAACP, the Martha’s Vineyard Branch of the NAACP, Island Elderly Housing, and the Oak Bluffs Board of Assessors.

Marie was a beautiful woman with a larger than life presence and an even bigger heart.

Marie was ready willing and able to take on any cause and didn't pull punches; firmly standing for equality and justice when needed.

Marie could be tough, doling out a quick tongue lashing when she needed to, but, she was also just as generous, compassionate and loving with a big hug when needed too!!!

I will always be grateful for the time we spent together and the many stories she shared with me. Interesting, informative and sometimes humorous stories spanning decades, filled with wisdom and knowledge gained through her lived experiences about everything; women, history, race, courage, determination and strength. Believe me, I listened and I learned.

She is one of the strongest women I know, and she could wear many hats in your life too!! I called her my Auntie Momma Sister Friend, but mostly Auntie Momma!!!  I am honored  and blessed I was able to meet her and get to know her in my lifetime.

She will forever be in my heart!

Rest in Peace my dear sweet Auntie Momma

 Love you much, Gladys

I used to rep Paul Goodnight …
I used to rep Paul Goodnight and was so pleased to find out that one of my favorite people in Marie has long connections with Goodnight. Glad to have brought them together for this visit — with Marie and Goodnight

My condolences to Marie's family. I first met Marie when I inherited her as a patient from a retired internist. Although initially dubious as I was young and new, she worked with me from that first day, and we tried the best we could to problem solve and create the best choice we could as each life event happened. She was intelligent and practical always, and despite how much pain she had, she would always say, that’s enough about me dr Ellen tell me about your kids. She was genuine, honest and lived her life with dignity. I will truly miss her. Please know she was very special to me and I will miss her dearly.

I just learned today! Your family has our deepest sympathy. My sister,  Sylvia Hill, sends her love. My email address is Angelacrom9319@gmail.com

David and Stacey: Your Mother gave us so much strength, so much courage and so much joy. We miss her wonderful life stories and miss how much she enveloped us with love. I can not imagine the loss you must feel.  However, one thing is for sure, her presence is still with us.

Warmest,

Carol

Dear Family,

Marie and I served together for years for the Boston and New England Area Conference NAACP units.  Just found the news of her passing while browsing for other NAACP information TODAY!  I am so sad and my heart is heavy for the loss of a true soul mate.  Please keep me in the loop for the upcoming Memorial Service; and know that you will remain in my thoughts and prayers.  A lasting memory is when she let me and my family vacation for a weekend with her, and the way she proudly displayed the jewelry she made.

With sincere gratitude, thanks  for sharing her with us,

Charlotte-Lori-Malachi Nelson-Dorchester, MA
