My condolences to Kathy’s family, and to all who love her.
I heard the “legend” of Kathy Humphrey, (“top notch defense attorney”) from Dave Sheuerman, long before I met her. My interest was further piqued when Kathy returned to practice at Sheuerman, Martini and Tabari about a dozen years ago.

Before long, Kathy and I began to share our experiences in settling and trying prior cases in various settings, and brainstorming challenges encountered in our current cases. Outside of work, we shared previous careers in nursing, adult children of similar ages, interests in cooking, movies, music, baseball, and….cats.

I discovered that Kathy had a dry sense of humor, boundless energy, dozens of cookbooks, a closet filled with beautiful couture, endless boxes of fabulous shoes, three feline roommates, and the biggest heart I’ve ever known.

One of my favorite memories is of a Christmas celebration with Kathy that included a luncheon with attorney and support staff colleagues and ended with an incredible evening in San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral with the Bach Society presenting Handel’s Messiah in it’s entirety. Hearing the symphony and choral music as it floated under the highest arches inside the gothic structure was deeply spiritual and unforgettable experience.

I will deeply miss Kathy’s company, our shared meals, rooting for our favorite local sports heroes, trading cat stories, cooking together, road trips, exchanging “war stories” from our courtroom adventures, and so much more.

Most of all, I am grateful that she is free of the pain that limited her joy in life in recent months.
