My name is Shawn Blanchard, I was Jay's cousin. We were baptized together, grew up seeing each other on Major Holidays! Over the last 50 years I have dearly missed you! You always were kind, played hard on Lake Erie 😃 To all of his family I see it is a great loss! But he is up in Heaven with the other family gone before 😇 Love and Peace to you all!

I loved Jay from the moment I met him. I've never quite met someone like him. I learned a million random "pearls" of wisdom, but mostly I learned by watching him. He was the cool guy you didn't have to impress. I admired his quick smile and easy laugh. His willingness to help with whatever he could, his honesty when he thought it was a dumb idea, and his commitment to his own dumb ideas. He made time for you, even when it was clear he didn't really have much time to give.
I only saw him just a few times a year, but the second I saw him, it was like no time had passed at all. There's a Jay-sized hole in the world, but I dare you to find someone who met him who doesn't have a story that will make you laugh. He loved stories, and I'm happy that his legacy will be the smiles and laughs from the memories he left behind. I hope he knows how much I looked up to him. I think of him as my big brother and a good friend, and I'll never forget him. I hope to be a little more like Jay one day.

We were crushed to get this news. Jay had the most infectious laugh and I will miss talking with my friend and hearing stories of his adventures (laughing the entire time). John, Joel and Madi, I’m sure you know this, but he glowed when he talked about you and was so proud of you. We would end our calls saying the same thing – love ya brother. Jay, we love, and now miss you, brother.

We first met Jay at a 4th of July party and he was ready for the celebration, even equipped with a flag painted on his big toe. He was (that past tense is SO hard to use) unconventional, compassionate, generous, smart, and very fun to be around. We quickly became friends and are certainly better for knowing him. He leaves a legacy of family, friends, and numerous foster children who had the benefit of a loving, caring home provided by Jay and Rachel. We will miss him dearly but his spirit will continue to flourish.

We loved Jay and Rachael from the first time we met them. We enjoyed 9 years of friendship. Always made us feel loved and supported. No two people could make us laugh as hard. We will miss that so very much. Our times in the boat, sitting by the pond and fire pit sharing stories, those times were the best! Jay leaves a huge gap in our lives but heaven is truly a better place with him there. He lived his life ‘all-in’. We will miss you forever. 🙏❤️

Jay Miley. The first thing he said to me was that he used to be Mr. Smiley but he worked his "S" off. Not the lamest joke he ever told me, but it was the first. Of many.
Jay thought that he was invited to visit us in Sweden in 2009, but it was really an inspection. Who was this man that had Rachel as giddy as I had ever seen her? So she shows up with this handsome and completely lovable man - and he cracks this insanely lame dad joke. He won us all over. Erik laughed as much at Jay's jokes as Jay did and found a kindred spirit and a close friend. And Rachel was forced to admit that this goofy guy from Washington was the love of her life.
Jay's easy-going attitude and natural charisma were contagious and habit-forming. Jay became a part of our family. We celebrated together, vacationed together as often as possible. We supported each other and we cried together. Jay was a fierce friend, a sounding board and the big brother that none of knew we needed. The loss of this wonderful. man leaves a hole in our family that will never heal and for that we are grateful. We will never forget him, or his stupid jokes, his ridiculous outfits, his warm hugs or strong drinks, or that smile. You all know that smile, the one that made you feel totally welcome and completely at ease. Don't forget that smile, or those patented Jay Miley warm-and-fuzzies that came with it.
