Jay's obituary

We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of Jay Allen Miley, 58, of Heber City, UT on April 2, 2022. Jay was comforted in his passing with his wife, Rachel Michael, and daughter, Madison J. Miley by his side. Nick Schemmel was also present and was an absolute rock and great comfort to his family at that time. Jay's sons John R. Miley and Joel A. Miley were soon with their sister and mother, Jennifer Miley, to grieve together at the small Utah farm he loved.

Jay was born in Toledo, OH and spent his early years there. In middle school, his family permanently moved to what was the vacation lake home in Michigan where he graduation with the 1981 Class of Addison, MI. He was always very proud to share that he was 1st Chair, 1st Trumpet throughout high school!

Following High School, Jay became a licensed pilot. Though he did not ultimately pursue a career as a pilot, he always enjoyed the chances he had to be "Right Seat" in the years since. Jay then moved with his family to the San Diego area where he became a boat Captain as well as a certified sailing instructor.  He always had a love for the water which he shared with his children through all their summers waterskiing, wakeboarding and surfing on the boat. He loved the time spent with them on open water giving him some of his best stories! Many of our friends and family are left with memories of an evening boat cruise or day playing on the lake. He was his happiest when sharing these passions with others.

Jay excelled in his career. He loved his clients and colleagues and was always thrilled to be able to be a part of their successes. Many of his business clients are counted as close friends because...well, because, Jay. If you had the chance to have dinner with Jay, you'll know how easy it was for a business event to turn into a personal relationship. He loved to get to know you and then he loved to find a shared wine, meal, story or other connection with you.

Please add your memories, pictures and stories of Jay. You know Jay loved nothing more than a good story!

If you are so moved, you may donate to the Cloudy Owl Fund. Jay has long supported many causes including scholarships and we hope to continue this legacy. We are working on filing for tax exempt status and in the interim will accept donations that the family will dispense in his honor annually.

Love and Light on your journey Captain Jay.
