I will never forget the first time I met Jason, it was at Lake Simcoe in Keswick ,I was a windsurfer and he was a kite boarder.Jason was so enthusiastic about kiteboarding that I knew right then I was going to convert to kiteboarding and the rest was history.Ten years later Jason was still Just as fired up and full of passion every time he went on the water.l really looked up to you.Everybody knows you were a real Legend on the water and off the water and you will really be missed.

Like many I met Jason through…
2020
Like many I met Jason through the kiting community. From my first question to him back then about how to ride a foil, to his last words to me, he wanted to make sure I had the very best possible session each and every time I rode. Jason would sometimes call me days or even weeks after riding together to share what a joy it was, and to highlight a specific moment he recalled with great precision. Just seeing his car in the parking lot brought a smile to your face. Watching him greet other riders as they arrived was the norm for him, when many in the sport are rushing to get on the water. He made every session better and I know that he would have done the same thing in every other facet of his life. This is from a beautiful day with Jason at Presqu'ile soaring above us, doing what he loved, living life to the fullest. I will miss him and I will always remember him.
So many fond memories of Jason. I knew Jason for at least 10 years. Here is a classic text quote from Jason "get it bad boy". I remember in 2016 we swapped boards for 5 minutes while on the water. He was on a spotz foil and I was on a surf board. I did a lap on his foil. When I came back he sat patiently in the water. I asked why he didn't take a lap. His response, I don't know how to ride a surfboard. :) We had a few phone conversations when Jason first began transitioning to foils. I remember him talking about how scary foiling was. To think a short time later he became a Jedi master of foiling. Here is a quote from my texts with him back in 2016 "Best sesh yet on my foil board sir! 24 Jumps over 30 ft and figured out the sweet spot for jumping. " I have never met such a positive person so warm and inviting and always wanting to share the stoke. Where you headed today Jason? JSS. I was confused "where is that?" " Its Jason's Secret Spot. " you will be missed dearly! Rest in peace brother.

One two three

One : I only …
One two three

One : I only came to the beach, just to be in the water..................with you!

two: I only left the water, to soar through the air ........................with you!

three: only now you left the air towards the light, as father decides he too wants to spend time ..............with you!!!

As you now are in Heaven so you shall return to earth and I can't wait to fly high, high in the sky.........with you, my Ghostrider!!!

Forever and always...........I love You!!!

Jason was a good childhood friend of mine at St. Michael's Choir School. Our group still talks of him often! Saw his talent for magic develop, and he showed me how to play my first ragtime piano pieces: Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" and "Solace". Now my daughter loves playing ragtime piano as well, so his wonderful influence persists far and wide!
Rest in peace to my best frie…
Rest in peace to my best friend for life: Jason Maloney , brother of the brush (renaissancepainters.ca) and my best friend, every day, all day, for the last 40 yrs. Jason was a hero to me.What you see in the picture is what he gave to every single person he ever met: a glowing and energetic presence. We had just started a painting business together (in this picture) and he would go on to have a profound affect on my life. Both personally and in business. We were both basketball fanatics at competing high schools and at 17 He got me into magic and we would perform outside the Eaton Centre together on weekends doing our "street routine" and get crowds of 300+ people and make $30-$40 dollars for 3 20 minute shows.Jason was much more skilled than me as he had a 13 year head start, so he was The Master and I was his student yet I got larger crowds so we would kid each other about that for the next 40 yrs.We lived and breathed every moment doing tricks for random groups of people... whether it was after high school basketball games, a University of Toronto pub crawl or a kids party on the weekend. We had the same goal: We wanted to amaze everyone we met.He was 100% upbeat and positive and left everyone feeling like they could conquer the world. He was a master at running a painting business and completely dominated the faux finishing market in Toronto long before it was fashionable, was a world record holder in kiteboarding (a record he made at age 57 just a few months ago), could sing like an opera star, play the piano like Glen Gould and was a world class magician and "best friend" to all he came into contact with. The world lost an extraordinary person last night and fellow 'brother of the brush'. How special is someone who brings unconditional love and friendship to all they meet?We never argued once nor had raised voices towards one another in that entire 40 years.I spoke to him on the phone just as he was about to launch for the last time. In the brief 2 minutes we did what we always did...talked about the same things we had for 40 years: Sports and business and Molly. My last words to him were; "be careful out there Jason"...calling him, by his real name and not the pet name, "Loo" that we called one another daily for exactly 4 decades. "Make me a website Loo!, gotta go" were his last words as he hung up. Jason passed away doing the very things he loved. Kiting with friends and making plans for tomorrow. If you want to in any way honor his memory you will find it in yourself to be a little more upbeat and positive to ***anyone*** you come into contact with.If the person to whom your attention is focused on leaves feeling better about themselves and about what life has to offer them then you will have just channeled Jason's Spirit as that was his sole ambition in life: to be everyone's best friend.

I remember talking to Jason at one of the kiteboarding parties few years back and I was surprised to learn that he knew who I was. When I asked him how he knew me he simply said: “you are the guy who had kiteboarding accident on Lake Erie”… We laughed and talked for a while, he told me his story, I told him mine. We both joked about getting second chance and how kiteboarding makes life better… I will miss Jason’s positive energy and attitude, my thoughts are with Jason’s family during this difficult time.
Jason "Ghostrider" Maloney was one of the most beloved, passionate and amazing kiteboarders. It’s hard to imagine a WOO leaderboard without him, and the world of kiteboarding has lost a member that was oozing passion and dedication for the sport he loved so much. Jason (or, should we say Ghostrider), we will miss you dearly. For now, we have to digest this tough news, and our prayers are with you and your family, friends and community. RIP

Jason was an original in ever…
2017
Jason was an original in every sense of the word. I have never met a most interesting or talented person. Great guy, my deepest condolences to his family and too all that knew him.
Jason is an inspiration to watch, seeing 60/70 ft on the woo board is quite different from witnessing him actually 60/70 feet in the air, from a distance or up close, leveling with the tree tops, truly an amazing view.
he loved to do magic music and kitebording he started music and magic when he was 4 i don't know when he started kitebording now i just don't know what to do with out him
In response to "What did Jason love to do?"
I met Jason on Cobourg beach July 2020. I happened to paint a rock with the lake and him flying. He walked by and actually asked if he could buy it but of course I gave it to him. I was touched in a matter of minutes by this amazing energy coming from this guy. So friendly and exuberant! Impossible to forget such a wonderful guy. All this is less than a five minute encounter. My heart goes out to all those who loved him. I know how saddened I am by his passing so cannot imagine how hard this is for all of his friends and family. Sending love and strength. A huge loss and impossible to understand.
