I especially want to thank the organizers of this memorial page as it gave everyone near and far an outlet to share their personal stories and memories of Jason and it’s been truly therapeutic to read through them all. We are infinitely grateful for those involved in organizing the various tributes to his life and everyone who donated to make it possible. BEST LESSON EVER: Making $50,000 MORE because of one phone call. Jason was the first guy in business who taught me what true "value" really was. The prices he charged for anything his painting company did was THROUGH THE ROOF. His company offered a high end service and he (rightly) charged dearly for it. After all, they were ALSO getting a performance. ;> He made millions milking the high end Toronto market for 30+ years. I wanted to land an industrial job a while back in which I had done some previous work for the billion dollar company and was going to submit my bid of $40,000. I called Jason to discuss some of the details before emailing the quote. "Is it out of town"? he asked me..."Yep..a couple hours". Jason: "You know these guys"? Rick: "sure do, previous customers..remember that job I did for them"? Jason: "You busy with work lined up? Rick: "a ton of work". Jason: "Add $50,000 and forget about it. Job landed. (Thank you Jason)! Lesson: Know your value. Miss you buddy. Rest in peace Jason.

Jason used to organize a snowboarding crew every Wednesday at Blue Mountain for years. While most of us would show up here and there, Jason was there every Wednesday no matter what the weather forecast was. There was no such thing as a bad day for him! RIP, friend. We will all miss you.

As the world turns to chaos its comforting to see the kiting community collectively coming together honour such kingpin behind it all. It’s obvious how much he touched everyone in such a positive way. I for one will miss him very much, whether that be giving a thumbs up or a joyous shout, as we passed one another on the lake , having a post session chat on the beach while packing up or just a casual conversation while waiting for the winds to come up. He certainly was one of kind. My condolences to his family, rest assured he will never be forgotten..

Jason Maloney was a marvelous guy and wonderful support to me through high school and university and throughout my life! He was a talented singer and pianist (who can forget his portrayal of the Ugly Duckling when St Michael's Choir School competed at the Montreux Music Festival in 1976 (I'm sure his performance amongst other great thing we did, secured our 4th place finish out of over 100 choirs competing)! He was a crafty magician, talented draftsman and painter and one of the kindest people one could ever meet. He was supportive to me especially during a rather tough coming out process during University and again, when mum died, even though he was recovering from a near fatal accident himself at the time. He tragically lost his life in a Kite-Boarding accident on Sunday. To Jason's family, friends and the Toronto Kite Boarding community who loved him dearly (a tribute the his kindness), my deepest, heartfelt sympathy for your loss. he was precious to all of us.

It was really a sad day and I still can’t believe that it ended so tragically. I’m quite sure that he was the most experienced rider on the water that day and it must have been his time to go, because how can you explain it otherwise? I remember his previous serious brash with death, in the same spot (I think October 2011 if I remember correctly), when he was still a green kiter, and luckily survived and came back to kiting after months of recovery. So, in a way, he got a new lease on life which unfortunately expired after 9 years. It’s always hard when someone dies but he was definitely a special person who will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him personally. I haven’t seen Jason for a while (since we lived in different areas of Ontario) but we spoke on the phone few times recently and I remember seeing him kiting at my home spot of Long Beach on the evening of June 27th of this year, and before that, we had a nice long chat after a session in Port Dalhousie in St. Catharines. Time flies and it seems like it was just a few days ago. RIP my friend, we will meet again soon. My sincere condolences to Jason’s family. I know you are devastated by his passing.💔💔💔

So very sorry to hear that Jason is gone from this world. He and I were very close. Truly 'best friends' for many years. In our 20's we lived together in a couple of different apartments, and shared many crazy, young, hilarious and magical hours together. Hosting parties, double dating with girlfriends, throwing frisbee for 10,000 hours, and laughing, always laughing. His enthusiasm and joy for this life was absolutely infectious. And then, sadly, we had a falling out. It's was most definitely nobody's 'fault,' but these things happen. Then a month went by, then a year, then a few, and now, any chance of us smoothing things over and honoring that great connection we had is GONE. So goddamn sad. I've missed him for a long time. And now I guess I'll continue to miss him for a long time to come. But man do I love him. And wherever he is, I hope with all my heart that grinning, playful, brilliant guy is truly HAPPY. Big hug Jason.

When I started kiteboarding in 2010, Jason was someone who immediately took me under his wing and taught me so much about the sport. He was forever patient, gliding by to pick up and deliver my board on many occasions when I was in a bit of trouble in the water and forever optimistic, upbeat and helpful on the beach. There was a period of about three years where I kited with him almost every week, often several times. If it was above 5 degrees C, he would be geared up and keen to go out on the water. When it was too cold for an adventure on the water, Jason loved to snowboard. I was fortunate to join him, for a couple of years, every Wednesday at Blue Mountain, to snowboard from 9 am to 9 pm, when the lifts closed. He was an excellent snowboarder as well. Jason was excellent in so many ways but what I will remember the most was that he was always helping, always joyful and always so generous with his time, advice and friendship. What a truly special man! It is obvious how much he will be missed.
