Just saw this now and so many memories/emotions flowed over us. Pastor Jim and Marilyn have heard the words from our blessed Savior “ well done thou good and faithful servant”! Such warm , gentle, caring, genuine saints- they worked so well together and were a blessing to all who crossed their path.  The day my husband and I were baptized they had us over their home for dinner . May the Lord comfort the Marshall Family.  We look forward to THE grand reunion. Love in Christ

Deb and Jerry Treacy

Jim came to Black Rock to replace Roy Williams as choir director. I was not in the choir at that time. Jim really impressed me with the love he had for his flock. I applied to become a member of his choir. He had me try out as to what part I should sing. His love and sharing were so special to me. I had never sang in a choir before. Well he decided that I was a first soprano. He made each one of us so loved. Jim was a true Shepherd. I will never forget and always cherish The Sights and Sounds of Christmas that Jim created and so faithfully gave every Christmas. Many were saved during that time. We started off by giving 7performaces and had thousands attend. We had to do 9 performances. Then came Young At Heart. Jim and Marilyn gave their whole hearts to this group for the older folks. They both were gifts from God. I believe I was in the choir for about forty years. These years are so cherished by me. I praise The Lord for allowing both of them to be such a special part of our lives.
My time spent in choir was  one of the best times of my life. Being with Pastor Jim and Marilyn bi-weekly, being loved on, witnessing their unconditional love towards other, their devotion to each other and others was  such a blessing. Pastor Jim ‘s passion to do nothing less than perfection, brought choir to new heights. We loved our Christmas and Easter presentations of outreach. After recognizing everyone else, recognition would go to Pastor Jim. He would point upward to God. To God be the Glory! So very sorry for your tremendous loss. Know that many are praying for you. What  a joyous choir that will be when all those touched by Pastor Jim and Marilyn are reunited in heaven with them. The souls that were saved because  Pastor Jim  put his Lord and Master first.❤️

I loved how you both loved the Lord and demonstrated the fruits of the Spirit. May the Good Lord keep you both safe in His bosom, until we meet again.

So many great memories from their time at Arlington, from my childhood memories of Marilyn as the head of the Primary Department in children’s ministry to long but enjoyable Saturday morning practices and national tours as part of the Ambassadors music ministry. What amazing people and godly role models they were. My life was definitely impacted and I am better for having known them!

Rev. James and Marilyn Marshall

Jim and Marilyn Marshall have been a part of my life, for a very long time. Jim’s role was a larger part, for sure. But Marilyn always was happy to lend him to me for a while, as she did when he was best man at my wedding. A blessing and memory that I will cherish until my last breath.

As a member of Black Rock church for many years, I was there when Jim came as a candidate for Music Minister. His talent in music was evident whenever he sat at a keyboard. When Jim did the Christmas Musicals at Black Rock, I volunteered for drama, as I knew he wouldn’t want my singing. We had great fellowship doing those musicals. They were well performed, and well received by the community. All because of Jim’s direction. But more importantly, thousands of people heard the Gospel at these performances over the years. That is what Jim’s motivation was for this.

My friendship with Jim evolved some years later, when things started to go in the wrong direction in my life. We would meet once a month, often at great cost to him in terms of time and distance. He did this, not for weeks or months, but for years. His encouragement for me to trust the Lord, was at times, what carried me through what I was facing. We spent much time in prayer, not only during those days, but from then on. I had the privilege to pray with him in the hospital, a few days before he went home to Jesus. HIs love for the Lord, and his love for people was most evident when he prayed. And what was his last verbal prayer with me was beautiful and heartfelt, as he prayed for me and Janet, (my wife).

The last couple of years were difficult for him. He understood that life changes, but the changes he faced came quickly, and it was tough for him. We spoke on the phone weekly, and I found myself with the opportunity to be an encouragement to him now, as he had been to me so often. I hope I was able to do that for him. I always made a point to tell him that there were many people praying for him and Marilyn, not just me. He was always greatly encouraged to hear that, as I believe we all should when someone says it.

During the toughest time in my life, Jim encouraged me to memorize scripture. Each month when we met, he would ask me: “What have you memorized this month?” The first one I did is Hebrews 12: 1-3, which says; “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you do not grow weary and lose heart.”

The writer of Hebrews spoke about the hero’s of faith from the Old Testament in chapter 11 when he spoke of the great cloud of witnesses. We too are given a great cloud of witnesses of faith in our lives. People who God puts into our lives, who in turn, invest in our lives. People who show us by word, and example, how to mature as believers. So that we can do the same for others. Jim Marshall was a BIG part of my cloud of witnesses. Thank you Jim. Thank you Marilyn, for being his perfect match, and the love of his life.

Thank you God for bringing them both into my life.

Tim, Debbie and David, my heart is broken with your parents passing. I can only imagine the loss that you feel. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies, and my sincere prayers for God’s comfort in your loss.

Jim demonstrated his faith, musical talent and humor when leading the choir at Camp Bethel which was such a great experience. The churchgoers didn't always see his funny facial expressions and rehearsal antics - I had a hard time controlling my laughing sometimes! He and Marilyn were role models for many. I often think of the great influence he had on me and others as a true blessing to everyone he touched.

I fondly remember my time at Arlington Memorial Church under Pastor Jim’s direction.  My time there in the Ambassador’s was some of my best memories.  He and Marilyn will be greatly missed, but heaven has welcomed home two good and faithful servants.  I am so sorry for your loss and will lift up prayers for peace and comfort for your family.
For over 30 years, Jim and Marilyn have been the most precious friends we could’ve ever hoped for. We spent so many times with them in their home, as well as  vacationing together in Florida, Their lives just glowed with the joy of the Lord, and overflowed with His love to everyone they met. How we will miss them, but we look forward to that day when we see them again in glory. Our hearts ache together with you, his family, and with all the many people their lives touched over the years. We will dearly miss them.

My parents Jack & Dottie Kershaw loved these two. Pastor Jim & Marilyn were the most Godly people we all knew.Sitting in the hospital , visiting at home and laughing or reading from the Bible . That’s Jim & Marilyn. We loved them.

May God bless your family

Two lives lived; many lives touched . . . so many special memories . . . my final memory is of Jim at the piano and Marilyn by his side lifting spirits of the residents at Split Rock, just as they did throughout their lives together. Thinking of you, Tim, Debbie & Dave, as you walk through this difficult time and asking God to show you His love in unmistakable ways.

Shared a heart Red heart

Dear Dave, Tim and Debbie - Your mom and dad were very blessed for having found each other and their true purpose in life. We are keeping your families and friends in our prayers.

A portion of the video of Dad playing Mom’s favorite hymn. -Now I belong to Jesus.

Lyrics of chorus are:

Now I belong to Jesus

Jesus belongs to me

Not for the  years of time alone

But for eternity!

Debbie, we are thinking of you and your family during this most difficult time of loss. Clearly your parents will be missed by so many as they were a blessing to so many.  May God bless you with comfort and peace during this time.

Our church motto is Love God, Love people, serve our world. I know of no couple who personified this idea more than Jim and Marilyn. They used their God given gifts to serve all and be an example to everyone.
