Some of my earliest memories involve Shabbat dinners and holidays at Auntie Rosie's house on Rome Avenue. It was always a special treat when Harvey would be in town from California. He was the oldest of the cousins and I was the youngest. Harvey in town meant a new toy or doll from Mattel and he never failed to bring me something terrific.  I remember my parents going to California for Harvey and Avra's wedding, I believe in 1983? One year in December, probably 1977 or 78, when I would have been around 14 or 15, I went with my parents to California to spend time with Harvey. He took us to great restaurants, we drove to Tijuana where I got my first leather jacket and spent a lot of time together. I remember he had a sports car with vanity plates that read: EZHarv. I remember he and Avra at our house in St. Paul several times over the years. I remember how my mom affectionately referred to him as "Harvard." I remember celebrating with Harvey and the family so many times -- Lynn and Rick's wedding, Corey's Bar Mitzvah, Rachel's Bat Mitzvah, Jamie & Jordan's wedding, Rich and my wedding. I remember going to dinner in New York with Mom and Harvey. It would have been either 1988 or 1990, both summers I spent in the city. Mom had come to visit me and Harvey was there on business. We were to meet him for dinner at One if by Land, Two if by Sea per his recommendation. Mom would say that Harvey's recommendations were for only the very best. Finally, in July of 2019, Rich and I traveled to California and spent a few days with Harvey and Avra. Harvey was feeling really good at that time and we went out to dinners, went for walks on the beach, played a good game of Catchphrase, talked a lot and hung out in their garden. I am so thankful we were able to spend that time together, and that I was also able to interview Harvey about his life and early years in Minnesota. That interview resides at the Berman Upper Midwest Jewish Archives at the University of Minnesota, which will reopen again someday. I wish that I could be with you in person, but know that you are all in my thoughts and I am sending you so much love.
