I had the privilege to get to help teach Erik how to fly and get his Private Pilot's Certificate.  I say privilege because from his first flight it was very clear that Erik was a very gifted young man and aviator.  Myself and our instructors had the easiest job b/c Erik was so naturally talented in an airplane (it must of ran in the family).  Additionally, it was always a pleasure to be around him because of his great attitude, quiet professionalism, and kindness.  When I found out he was going to the aviation program at OU, I was very proud and excited about his future (even though I am a UT grad...I still supported it).  He will be missed.  Blue Skies and Tailwinds my friend.

Erik took my wife and I up flying. It was pretty surreal having a teenager fly me in an airplane. He let me take the controls which was pretty cool. Then he said, “Do a 180.” Out loud I said, “OK,” but inside I was saying “O…shit!” I never told anyone how terrifying it was for me, but Erik was cool as a cucumber. It’s very possible he was in control the whole time and was just making me look cool in front of my wife. I have several memories of Erik but that one stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Lifting you all in prayer during this unimaginable loss

The most kind hearted and genuine person I have ever met. Erik saw the good in every situation and never failed to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Erik’s spirit will make even the brightest corners in heaven brighter. Prayers to his family and loved ones❤️

May you find peace in this time of sorrow.  So sorry for your loss.

The Pultz’s

Erik was the kind of friend who would always meet you where you’re at. If you were sad, he’d listen and share in your sadness. And he’d celebrate with you just the same. He didn’t judge or show exclusivity. I wasn’t one of his most consistent friends but I am grateful for the time I did spend with him going on occasional walks, hikes, and drives. I think the fact that I wasn’t in the innermost circle is a testament to his character: it’s not just how he treated his closest friends, it’s how he made an effort to be kind to everyone and make everyone feel welcome. Erik made a point to let people know that they were worth his time—that they were worthy of love. I’m beyond glad to have known him. My memories hanging out in Red Rock with him inspire me to be a better person. Sincere condolences to his family
Couldn’t think of a better man to call a best friend. It felt like a national holiday whenever we heard he was coming back in town or we planned a trip up to Norman. Love you forever Erik, and all my love goes to your family.
