Emma was such a central part of my postdoc in Ithaca I just can’t fathom that she is gone so soon. She was a friend, a colleague, and (very importantly) a thoughtful neighbour. My most formative memories, however, were the three weeks we lived aboard the “Tip Top II” in the Galapagos. Working at Cornell came with a lot of perks, but having Emma and myself lead a tour in Ecuador was an absolute highlight, and I couldn’t have imagined a better friend to have shared that experience with. We had coffees at sunrise, cocktails in the evening, and waxed poetic about the finches to the participants (which were much less colourful than hers back at home!). Emma was an amazing colleague, but an even better friend, and just a one-of-a-kind human. I’ll miss you!

Emma was a bright light, and we really need more bright lights like her in this world! I'll never forget teaching her how to drive a stick shift back around 2010. It was Jack Bradbury's old research lab truck and she needed a vehicle at the time.

Emma was such a remarkable person - sweet, incredibly funny, beautiful inside and out, and a dear friend. Some of my best memories with her are walking the trails around the ornithology lab during breaks at work, just chatting and laughing. Her energy and humor were always a bright spot of my day and made her beloved by everyone. She had so many friends! Going out to Organ Pipe with Emma was a highlight of the last few years; she truly seemed in her element in the desert. One particularly sweet memory is meeting her there in 2021, when the park was nearly empty during the pandemic, and sitting out in lawn chairs each night watching shooting stars together. That was also the trip where we spontaneously gave each other haircuts while sitting around at camp one afternoon, which was Emma's idea! It was especially fun to see how she lit up when doing something she loved, like taking care of her finches and particularly whenever she was talking about Veda. She was a great mom and friend. I feel so lucky to have known her.Sending much love to Krishna, Veda, and the Greig family <3
