My condolences to the Simon's family. I was a friend of Dave's from college. I am so thankful that Andy, Eric, Frank, Howie and I were able to spend time with Dave last year. I will cherish those memories as well as all the wonderful memories Dave helped create in college.

2 on 2 stickball games. Rave wasn't really a pitcher, but he was the last guy you wanted to face. The scowl told you how determined he was. You never knew exactly how or when he would deliver the pitch, and if it was coming at your head or the middle of the plate. But he was coming at you, you could count on that.

Football in the park. Rave wasn't really a quarterback, but he was the one you rallied around. The huddle was quiet. He'd call the play with total conviction, "everybody go out." And you really felt it would work.

He had the January birthday and he got the driver's license. He'd put $5 of gas in the Datsun and we were good to go. "It's not that strong uphill, but really good downhill." He pushed the seat as far back as could go, and extended his arms. Like a jockey driving a trotter. And an imaginary whip when he was passing another car. It wasn't really a race because time stood still.

His room was infamously messy. Entire floor was covered unapologetically with his stuff. One time I found a fishing hat. He let me have it. I threw it on when I got woken up for an intramural softball game. We won. I wore it every game for 4 years. A couple years later during our trip to Florida, we water skied and got a great pic with the fishing hat. It flew out to sea, a fitting end.

David was the strongest man I have ever known. His love for his children was incomparable to anything else. He was passionate, dedicated and determined. I am so grateful that I knew David on a personal level, visiting him in Florida quite a few times. But what I am most grateful for is the way that he touched my two best friends’ lives. Annie and Betsy have always valued their father’s work ethic and perspective on life. I see a lot of David in both of them. They have followed in their father’s footsteps to become confident and successful people who never give up. David was extremely proud of both Annie and Betsy (as well as baby Samwella and Chubby bubby). He loved nothing more than when the siblings were all together. I will miss overhearing David and Annie's 5x a day FaceTimes where they discussed their plan to collect all alcohol bottles and shave them into cups. Together they loved talking about the stock market, Goldman Sachs, Restoration Hardware, the Rangers, the Giants, Super Coffee, and most recently, Champ.

I will always admire David's strength and wisdom. I will miss him terribly.
David, I pray that you rest in peace.
Love,

David was a fantastic person in so many ways. One afternoon in the office there was such a strange smelling... it was him, making popcorns! He used to love teaching how to make the best “suco verde” (green juice). Thank you Dave for all lessons and my condolences to your beloved kids and family!
Sending my deepest condolences to David’s family - I was lucky to have David as my first manager at Goldman in 1996. We spent days and late nights working together to build out the loans platform in my early days there. He loved T accounts - and taught me that everything we did had to be reflected on the books and records. Boy - was that a lesson I wouldn’t forget! From there David moved on to Hong Kong but remained a mentor and friend for a long time - our paths cross crossing his multiple roles across locations in the organization. He was honest and shared what he knew across the organization and many of us are better for knowing him. Like others I remember him jumping up to stand on cubicles and give his town halls, always talking about his children, the next race or triathlon (and his challenge getting his swim time down), and eating ice cream in the afternoon. He has an enthusiasm that was contagious and will keep him in my memory always

We were so lucky to have David as our CEO. We learned so much from him and from his smart, objective, hard working, fair and humble style of managing organizations and people. He will be always remebered as our great boss and friend. Our deepest condolecences to the family.

I’m sending my love and thoughts to you all. Dave was an amazing man. I first met him in London in 1993 when he interviewed and recruited me at Goldman Sachs. He was my inspiration and role model and helped create my strong work ethic - no one I have worked with since has matched him. He must have interviewed so many people over the years but he still remembered every detail on my cv - even that I worked in a cheese factory, which he took delight in telling people! He always flew ‘coach’ but one time was on a GS private jet back from Bangalore with other senior GS guys - I loved to remind him of that when he preached to me ... you can imagine him squirming and saying “well it was going anyway so it doesn’t really count”! I was fortunate to spent a week with Dave last September in Delray and meet Sam, Stephen, Wendy, Paula and his parents. I will be forever grateful that I had that time with him. Dave I love you and miss you but your teachings and ethics live on. X

I’m saddened to know of Dave’s sudden demise, he mentored me during my formative years at Goldman and will be remembered as a great mentor, a true leader and a humble human. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, may his soul rest in eternal peace!
My condolences to Dave's family. I have fond memories of working with Dave back at Goldman. Dave expected the best from all of us. He will be missed!
Sam,
My favorite memories of your dad are, of course, all in the context of you. I love the ways he showed you he loved you. I loved hearing him on FaceTime say, "Hi my baby Samwella" and I love that he bought you a fan necklace to keep you cool in the hot NYC summer. I love that he took so many videos of you as a little girl, and I love the story of his reaction to the sound the hangers made at Loehmann's (that last one was unrelated to you, but always makes me laugh). I know your dad cherished the time he was able to spend with you, and I know how much he'll be missed.

All my love to you, JD, A& B (who he loved just as much!!)
Jaclyn

I have so many memories of David over the course of my 15 year friendship with his daughters, Annie and Betsy, and niece, Eliza.

David achieved so much in his 58 years, and truly lived life to the fullest. I know his kids inherited his strong-willed nature, logical perspective, and incredible generosity, and I am confident they will carry on his legacy in a way that will make him proud.

I will miss him ALWAYS calling me by my first and last name whenever I pop into a FaceTime, and I will never forget the time he showed up to a Camp Wah-Nee visiting day wearing sneakers with individual toe slots.

Sending all my love to the Simons family! Rest easy David.

My deepest condolences to the family. I am short of words to explain how much I learnt from David. I will miss him and always cherish the lessons learnt. He is a legend and will forever live in our memories. I feel lucky to have crossed paths with this great human being. May his soul rest in peace.
I am so grateful for the time I was able to spend with Mr. Simons this summer. I will never forget the huge embrace he gave me picking me up from the airport - joyful and excited to see me as if I was his own daughter. He was a passionate, witty, thoughtful, generous, intelligent human being who will be remembered not only by his great successes and accomplishments in life, but as a father who loved his children more than anything. His legacy will live on through his beautiful family. I am a better person for knowing him and will miss him dearly. Rest in heavenly peace... all my love, Lindsay Koch

Dave was, as others have said, a "good guy". And a reasonable guy. And all that balanced with a wonderful B.S. detector! : ) I always enjoyed our conversations while we were both managers at Goldman for many years. Dave was guaranteed to be a source of realism, energy, humor and goodwill.
I’m broken up by this. David was one of my best friends since 1973. We spent a days together. Our mantra? “What do you want to do today? Ride bikes?”

I have thousands of stories. He was a friend and a brother. Our group of 11 Baldwin guys have been together for 47 years including meeting at the Dino 4-5 times per year. He had an incredible impact on my life and will be sorely missed. My heart felt condolences to his family. As all know - he prides himself on being “tough”

Love you
Trh

A man of simplicity, professionalism, a confidant, a mentor to name a few. GS Bangalore will remember him forever. He showed us the GS culture and remembered every single one of our remarks in our CV. The personal touch he bought to connect the initial batch of GS and its strong foundation has inspired many of us till date. As recent as July/Aug 2020, I had the opportunity to message him and he was positive to come out successful and meet us soon.

Lots of memories, Dave we will truly miss you. Running short of words but a remarkable personality. My condolences to the family.
