Our deepest condolences to Alex's family. My brother was a close friend of Alex's for many years growing up and in the chess realm - practicing chess, going to tournaments, traveling, living in Budapest. Through their friendship, my mother became good friends with Alex's mother, Claire, up until her passing years later. While I did not know Alex as well as the rest of my family, we did spend ample time together. He was kind and respectful, and we always appreciated his wit and intellect. Such a sad and untimely loss for all who knew and loved him.

Nothing in life can prepare us for the death of a loved one. Whether death results from a sudden accident or a sustained illness, it always catches us off-guard. Death is so deeply personal and stunningly final; nothing can emotionally prepare us for its arrival. With every death, there is a loss. And with every loss, there will be grief.

Grief doesn’t come and go in an orderly, confined timeframe. Just when we think the pangs of anguish have stolen their last breath, another wave sweeps in, and we are forced to revisit the memories, the pain, the fear. Sometimes we try to resist the demands of grieving. We long to avoid this fierce yet holy pilgrimage. We fight against the currents, terrified of being overwhelmed, of being discovered, of becoming lost in our brokenness.

Culture tells us to move past this process quickly. Take a few days, weeks perhaps, to grieve, but don’t stay there too long. Grieving can make those around us uncomfortable. Friends sometimes don’t know what to do with our pain. Loved ones struggle to find adequate words to comfort our aching wounds.

Yet grief, as painful a season as it is, is a necessary part of our healing. To run from grief is to run from the very thing that can quell the pain of our loss. Our grief has a purpose if we come to God and use prayer for healing. Grieving is the process God uses to bring us to a place of wholeness.

Romans 8:18 The Pain that you’ve been feeling cannot compare to the joy that’s coming.

Psalms 34:18 The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

“Do not be discouraged ,for the Lord , your God will be with you wherever you go”. Joshua 1:9

He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wound” Psalm 147:3

My condolences to Alex's family.   He was a kind, intelligent and compassionate doctor.   He truly helped me.  I am saddened and sorry for your loss

Life is the Greatest gift that God has given us.

Death is only a bridge toward eternal life with God.

Ill keep these treasured memories in a blanket of my love and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved still missed and very dear I miss you so much Alex

Alex and I worked together for quite a few years. I am so heartbroken to hear about his passing. He was a good man with a big heart and a beautiful mind. His mission was to heal everyone he met!!! Alex, your work is not done. Those of us you left need healing right now. Love you and will always remember your beautiful smile! Linda
