What is a Keepsake Urn?

If you’re looking for multiple people to share the remains of a loved one, purchasing a keepsake urn is a great first step.

Regular Urns vs. Keepsake Urns

Keepsake urns, also known as small urns, mini urns, or sharing urns are much smaller in size than a traditional urn. A regular sized urn for an adult is around 200 cubic inches which is intended to hold all of the remains. You can estimate the size of urn that you’ll need by assuming 1 cubic inch = 1 pound of body weight. If someone weighed 200 lbs, they’d need an urn that is at least 200 cubic inches in size to hold all of their remains. Mini urns or keepsake cremation urns are usually around 3-20 cubic inches in size and are intended to hold around a small amount of ashes.

Keepsake urns are meant to hold a small amount of ashes so that the remains can be shared. Keepsake urns come in a variety of styles, sizes, and designs. Mini urns are available in keychains, necklaces, and other types of jewelry. Some may choose to purchase small keepsake jewelry as a way of keeping a loved one close to them throughout the day.

Keepsake Urn Prices

The price of keepsake cremation urns depends on the size, style, and type of miniature urn you’re looking at. Many keepsake urns start at around $25 and can go up from there. It’s a good idea to work with those who will be receiving the keepsake urn for their opinion on which ones they’d like to purchase since many keepsake urns allow for engraving messages.

You can always purchase keepsake urns online, usually for a much cheaper price than you’d get from a funeral home.
