I don’t remember meeting Zak exactly or when. I think it was about 5 years ago and it was like one day, he was just THERE. Friends with everyone. Plugged in. Smiles and mischief. And struggles too. His personality was like a combination of that kind of laughter that bursts out at the most inappropriate times and the most comforting hug rolled into one. He tolerated me addressing him as “young man” and a few awkward big sister/aunt attempts at being supportive. I always felt like he cared about me even though we weren’t super close. I loved seeing how he was with his friends and how they were with him. So much love. ♥️

Zak was my very best friend. We talked everyday, we aimed to face-time. (Which was hard in new york but we made it work) both of us being chronically ill we would give each other as much love as we could. Still flew across the country to see each other. He was my favorite companion, i have no clue how im gonna go on without him. Hes so loved, and im so glad. I love you zak
Zak was naturally ambidextrous, and it helped in sports like lacrosse. He mostly played attack and was a key player on the Firehawks team. He later switched to goalie and was the most aggressive out-of-the-net goalie I’ve ever seen. We had to beg him to stay in the hole, but he just wanted to cream anyone getting near the crease. As a coach it was incredibly frustrating, as a dad, there were many proud moments.

I grieve for who Zak was going to become. It was going to be very special. We were all robbed of a great gift.

When I think about Zak, I think about what a caring person he was. Always concerned about how others were feeling, more than himself. And regardless of what was going on, I always felt better after talking with him. I felt calmer and closer to him. I imagine everyone felt that way with him, and that's a testament to the type of person he was and the huge amount of love he so freely gave everyone.
