William's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Wilhoyte, known to most as Bill, a much loved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. Born on October 10, 1940, Bill's spirit departed this world on June 29, 2023.

As a lifelong educator and mentor, he began from humble beginnings as the son of a passionate Nazarene minister. Growing up in Kentucky, with two gifted older sisters and a mother of genuine kindness, he found a love of basketball that would persist throughout his life. His graduation from and work at Eastern Nazarene College would forever change his path as he met the love of his life, Cheryl Hiers, and eventually went on to pursue a career in education, earning his Masters Degree from Case Western Reserve and his Doctoral Degree from the University of Maryland.

He spent many years as an Elementary School Principal and mentor to future administrators. His dedication to giving children the best education possible and providing opportunities for those who guide them to be equally as supported, will continue to be a foundational component of his legacy.  His career in administration allowed him to positively impact the lives of thousands of children, working across multiple school districts as a Community and District Superintendent.

While Bill's accomplishments are many, it was the personal interactions with those who knew him and his humor that leaves the most indelible memory. With a twinkle in his blue eyes, he shared keen insight and a belief in a person's potential that inspired many to become the best they could.

His light will continue to shine in the hearts of his beloved wife, Cheryl Wilhoyte, whom he married in 1965, his adored daughter Wendy Levy, his son-in-law Christopher Levy, and his cherished grandchildren Cassidy Evans, Kai Levy, and Paden Levy. His family, who were at the core of his world, will miss him immensely and know that his spirit was a unique and special blessing from God.

In remembrance of Bill and his benevolent spirit, a fund has been set up in his name. Instead of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the “Community of Hope” fund at https://everloved.com/life-of….

Bill's loss has left an irreplaceable void, but his influence and the wisdom he shared will be gratefully carried on through his family and the innumerable lives he touched. His memory will remain a continual presence in the hearts and minds of those who were privileged enough to know him.
