I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. Our paths crossed many times but most memorable at MCPS central office when I worked on his team and Wood Acres when he came by to visit one of his many schools. He was always encouraging and supportive as he mentored new administrators. Many sympathies to his family

My sincere sympathy to Cheryl, Wendy, the Grandkids and family. May beautiful memories comfort your hearts. Bill was my principal at two MCPS schools - Farmland and Strawberry Knoll. Bill was an amazing school administrator and leader - always putting children first. With wisdom, humor and relentless compassion he held us all accountable to do our best work to help children realize their potential. No matter how busy he was, he always had time to help, lend an ear, share a tip, and be ever present.
The lessons learned from Bill of knowing each child, building real relationships with families, and giving staff guidance and space to grow stayed with me throughout my career. His dedication to education kept things meaningful and respectful of teachers. I appreciate the kindness he showed my parents - who loved visiting me at school. My Mom would march into to his office - cupcake in hand- to find out if her daughter was doing her job. Fond memories of the staff skits he endured every year as he knew the value of staff working and laughing together. Nothing better than sharing stories with Bill.
He was a great mentor and friend. Dr. W - you will be forever missed.

Bill’s family of origin and I were very close. They considered me a “daughter” and they were my 2nd family. There are many memories of weddings, birth of children and much family time. Bill had a Siamese cat named Sir Tom. He was a real one man cat and Bill was his man. On occasion when I was feeding him when family was away he would acknowledge his need for me When Bill returned the friendship disappeared Lol

I had mr wilhoyte as my sixth grade teacher at grosvenor elementary school. I am now 68 years old and a university professor and have never had a better teacher than him. I have always held him with my highest respect because of his deep integrity, his love of learning and teaching, his humor, and his ability to see each student as a treasure. I only wish I could tell him how many times I think of him and draw upon the lessons he taught me and my classmates. His warm spirit will always be with me. — nalini nadkarni

I’ve only known Bill for the last four years as we served on the board of MMC. I enjoyed his sense of humor and smiles. He did so much for our community and has been and will continue to be missed greatly. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. May God give you comfort and peace during this difficult time.
