William's obituary

William (Bill) Thomas Madden of Junction City, Kansas, entered this life on March 12, 1954, in Horton, Kansas. He was raised in Effingham, Kansas and was the twelfth child out of fifteen born to George Dennis Madden and Angela Rose (Blocker) Madden. He served in the US Navy from 1972 until 1978 as an Engineman Second Class and completed two tours of duty. Bill transitioned from the Navy to a role as a federal corrections officer, and later dedicated his efforts to assisting troubled youth. He overcame many obstacles in life through his adaptability and resourcefulness. He enjoyed many activities to include farming, carpentry projects, watching Westerns, and making everyone around him smile.

Bill lived a life of service and always cheered for the underdog. He volunteered countless hours in the name of God through multiple churches doing maintenance, groundskeeping, and cooking many community meals. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time doting on his children and many grandchildren. He could often be heard saying he didn’t have step or adopted family, but a perfectly blended family.

Bill left this life peacefully on February 15, 2024, in the home of his son in Calhan, Colorado. He was a wise, loving, and supportive father that had the deepest gratitude of his children. He is loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, two infant children (Zachery Thomas and October Rose), and his loving wife of 30 years Rosemary Sue (Coles) Madden. Six siblings preceded him in death, brothers John Madden, Paul Madden and Gerald Madden and sisters Lois Sage, Irene Madden and Helen Hagen. He is survived by brothers James Madden, Michael Madden, Ralph Madden, Louis Madden, Alva Madden and Henry Madden, and sisters Mary Kimmi and Frances Robinson.

He is survived by his four children: Jonathan (Stephanie) Madden, Anita (Thomas Pelletier) Madden, Nicole Madden, and Michelle (Jeffery) Carden. Also, his 13 beloved grandchildren: Sullivan Madden, David Porter, Mackenzie Kemp, Skye Feliciano, Elise Kemp, Pearle Kemp, Zephyr Madden, Zailynn Madden, Nathaniel Stogsdill, Harlan Madden, Leo Carden, Henley Madden,  and Ollie Carden.

A graveside service will be held at Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at 11:30am on Friday March 22, 2024.
