Mr. Greene was the among the heads of the Political Science Club when I attended South Texas College in 2015-17. His charm attracted others to be curious about politics and in general to be curious about human nature. As someone who watched him at the Capitol as he voted for Ron Paul in the Electoral College, it was certainly a move only he could do. Every July 3, I wonder just what he would think about our liberties and our freedoms...

In 2016, I learned that someone in the electoral college cast their vote for Ron Paul. I didn’t know who it was, but I knew I had a new hero. I talked about that vote for weeks.

Fast forward to April 2017. I attended an event at Ron Paul’s house. It was a magical night I’ll never forget. We all sat down to dinner and this gentleman was entertaining our little table with his stories. He was clearly brilliant and yet had a humble attitude. You couldn’t help but like him.

After dinner, Dr. Paul and several others made their speeches. Then, the man I had eaten dinner right next to got up, gave a speech, and presented Dr. Paul with a framed copy of his electoral college vote. OMG!!! I had just eaten dinner with my newest hero, that just happened to be Bill!

You were taken too soon, Bill. We miss you dearly.

Still miss him. Miss his insights. I still laugh when I remember crazy things he did when he was 18,

Bill was a great friend and supporter of our freedoms. Miss you Bill! Reminded and inspired to stand for what is right, even if standing alone because of Bill’s stand for liberty.

An important memory I have of Bill (I met him in high school) was his incredible enthusiasm regarding whatever he did.   He had a great sense of humor and we spent a lot of time laughing and shared a fascination of the Beatles.

Many of my memories of Bill are like a video in my head. It's hard to describe them. He could be both the funniest person on earth, and the most infuriating, with not a lot inbetween. He could set you straight in one sentence, though, without the person on the receiving end getting mad or offended, even when he was 18. A rare gift!

I was literally just thinking as I wrote this, that I wished I'd thought to ask him how he did that, but I immediately saw that smile of his in my head. If you knew Bill, you already know the selection of verbal responses that went with that smile.

I miss my dear friend and Cherokee kinsman almost daily. I still can't fathom why he was called to the other side so soon, but I'm so incredibly grateful that I was able to be his friend for so many years.

It’s been two years, reading these memories have been a great comfort these last few years as not more than 2 people have reached out with memories since his passing. The grief is continuously throbbing and none of my close family even talk about him anymore. I love reading these memories in hopes that you are also keeping his memory alive, and it’s not just up to me.

What is the contact information for the funeral director? I would like to help out.
Glad to have known Dr. Greene…
Glad to have known Dr. Greene. He was a dedicated professor and student faculty advisor. Condolences to the family.
I pass along here my condolences to the family and friends of Bill Greene. I met Bill at Brevard College in 1982. We shared an interest in music, all those odd bands few had heard of at the time, and we had a lot of good laughs at Brevard and beyond when he was in the Atlanta area. He was a groomsman at my wedding in 2002. I have sadly reported the news of Bill's passing to several other Brevard College alumni; all were shocked. There is much to pause and reflect on with his passing. I wish everyone peace as we continue with our lives.
I met Padre the first week of his Freshman year at BC, and my Sophomore year. He'd just turned 18 and was skinny as a matchstick! Fast friends and thick as thieves from the beginning, I know I haven't known Bill my whole life, but it certainly feels like it. My favorite memory is:

I hadn't been rollerskating in years, and convinced Bill to go to the skating rink with me. He didn't miss a beat in saying yes. Off we went on the day, in my car (since he didn't have one then), strapped on our skates and stepped out onto the floor. It was a little busier than I remembered for that night of the week, and Bill looked terrified. We had a blast, even with it being too crowded, and thankfully the rink was enforcing the rules on behavior; both of us were a bit unsteady at first.

Fast-forward to 2004, and we were reminiscing about days at BC and I brought up going roller skating. Bill didn't remember it . . . until I mentioned him going off, on the rink floor, about a specific song they played halfway through our time there. "Hey Mickey," by Toni Basil.

Anyone who knows Bill knows how he feels about that song! That jogged his memory. And then he told me, "I didn't know how to skate, and I haven't learned yet." I was horrified, and asked why he didn't speak up at the time. He said it sounded like a fun way to try it out. He was always up for a challenge!

I still can't believe he's gone, and so sorry I can't make it for the service, but I plan to honor Bill's legacy and memory this way: as I'm going to be teaching English as an International Language via Civil Rights Legislation and policy, I've decided that I'm going to go back and pick up a BA in Political Science to go with that. Bill never taught just the what of PolySci, but also the how and why. He always helped me whenever I asked, with my assignments for my minor in Education Law, when I was working on my M.Education. If he was busy, he still managed to do it in a few days. I don't know how he made time for everyone who needed his expertise.

He's leaving a bigger hole than I think he ever realized, in all of our lives. One person can absolutely make a difference. Just look at Bill, and then how many people have posted here about how he changed their life. Rest in peace, my dear friend. We'll have to go skating again, on the other side.

And to the love of his life: Kelley, he is with you still, just the physical part is gone. An entire army of angels be with you tomorrow, and during the difficult days still ahead.

I remember the first time I heard of Bill - the “faithless elector” who voted for Ron Paul in the 2016 election who instantly became a hero to me. Later I was able to meet him & Kelley, & they were both as wonderful in person as I could possibly have imagined.

When I think about Bill now, I’m sad that I won’t get to see him again while on this earth. But I also think of his impact on so many people in the stand he took with his Electoral College vote, the additional “oomph!” of liberty fuel his action gave us all, & the education he gave to our nation in his testimony about the EC system.

He may not be here with us physically, but he will ALWAYS be here in our hearts and minds. And Kelley, the Liberty Family is a huge one, and you are a welcome member of it. Love, hugs, and prayers for comfort and peace over you and all of Bill’s loved ones.
My heartfelt condolences to Bill's family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Bill. With your devotion to your students, the Political Science department, and South Texas College in general, you truly made a difference in many people's lives. You will be missed greatly. Margaretha E. Bischoff, also on behalf of the LASS division.
On behalf of the faculty and staff at South Texas College, it brings us such sadness to learn of the passing of Dr. Bill Greene. Bill’s passion and devotion to higher education was always evident by his high energy and active participation on campus. He will always be remembered for his excellent teaching skills and willingness to help others.
I extend my deepest condolences during this difficult time and know our prayers are with you.

Respectfully,
Dr. Shirley A. Reed, President
