William's obituary
In 1946, he went to Arabia for the American/Arabian Oil Company as a mechanic. After returning to the United States he worked in construction in the Sacramento area & then moved to Duarte Ca. & worked for Aerojet Corp. He then went to work for Rheem Mfg. Co., aircraft division, as a Nike missile inspector in Downey, Ca. , where he met his future wife Barbara.
On 10-1-57, Bill was accepted by the California Highway Patrol & upon graduation was appointed as a State Traffic Officer on 12-20-57. He was assigned to the Compton, Ca. office where he worked also as a motorcycle officer. After 3 years in the Compton office he transferred back to Sacramento & worked at Headquarters & scales & weights. Bill transferred to the Auburn area & retired as a Sgt. in 1981. His many jobs after retiring from the CHP included: Investigator for Insurance Crime Prevention Insitute, Mervyn's Dept. Store as a Loss Prevention Manager, Private Investigator, & Century 21 Real Estate.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, built two retirement homes in Penryn, Ca., & loved being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara, his four children, Cathy Perales, Betty Castillo, Lynn Ekness, & William Champion Jr. , and a sister, Linda Earhart. He had 9 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service with Honor Guard will be held at the Middle Tennessee State Veteren cemetery in Nashville, Tn. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
