William was our IT superhero. He came to the Drennan lab's rescue time and time again. When we needed a different computer setup for processing cryo-EM data, William made it happen. When a computer started having issues before a big talk or grant deadline, William saved the day. We owe him so much. We will miss him so much.

I am so sad about William.. I met him in the early 1990's beginning in the Theory of Computation group in LCS and through the years to the current day. I have such great memories of him always being helpful and friendly no matter what. I saw him in the last year and I felt his kindness again and was so happy to see him, such a familiar, beautiful face. William was such a kind and generous person. He mentored so many.

William looked at a then administrative assistant at the Computer Resource Service group at MIT's Lab for Computer Science and decided they could have a career in System Administration. William not only taught me about computers. He taught me how to really listen to my users and ask key questions so I could address their actual problem instead of simply answering their question.

I owe my career to William. I'm so sorry I didn't thank him in person.
