Weslei's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce that Weslei J. Horn received her angel wings on January 20,2026. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend.
Weslei was born on December 23, 1956 to Wesley & Anne Welsh in Homer, Alaska. As her mother was leaving to give birth her parents realized that hadn’t settled on a name, her father said Weslei and her mother said ‘ what if it’s a girl’” Hence she was named after her father.
Because her father worked for the FAA, the family moved throughout Alaska during her childhood. Weslei lived in Galena, Northway, Cold Bay, and Kenai before the family eventually settled in Eagle River, Alaska.
She attended Chugiak High School graduating in 1975. She later attended the University of Alaska Anchorage where she studied Sociology. After college, Weslei began her career at Longs Drugs and later worked for Mohawk Marketing. During that time she had the opportunity to travel extensively, including a memorable trip to Japan. She later worked for the Anchorage School District until retiring in 2014.
In 1978, Weslei met the love of her life, Steve, Together they shared 48 wonderful years and were truly soul mates. They embraced the Alaskan lifestyle, enjoying rafting, camping, fishing, hiking and spending time outdoors experiencing Alaska.
After the birth of her son, Andrew, Weslei chose to dedicate herself to be a loving and devoted mother. She was deeply involved in many of her son’s activities and especially loved hockey. She proudly served as team manager for several of the teams he played on and enjoyed being part of the hockey community that surrounded him.
Later in life, Weslei found immense joy in becoming a grandmother to Killian. Her grandson brought her tremendous happiness and quickly became one of the brightest lights in her life.
Weslei had a special way of making the world a little kinder. Whether baking treats for neighbors, handing out gift cards to flight attendants, offering a kind word or simply listening., she made a point to brighten someone’s day.
Those who knew Weslei will remember her as petite yet strong, feisty and a little sassy, never afraid to speak her mind and deeply loved by those around her. She took pride in her appearance and carried herself with style and confidence. She was passionate about her family, hockey, painting, her greenhouse, spending time at the cabin, and most of all being a grandmother.
Weslei is survived by her loving husband, Steve; her son Andrew (Jessica) of Grand Junction, Colorado; grandson, Killian; sisters Corky Pope of Lebanon, Oregon, Cyndy Johannsen (Pete) of Anchorage; brother, Lanse Welsh of Anchorage; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley & Anne; brothers Richard and Steve; sister in law Marie; and her beloved niece Erica.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Kehls Legacy Funeral Home. A private memorial was held in Anchorage.
The family requests that all flowers and notes be sent to Steve at 6300 Connors Trail Drive, Anchorage,Ak 99502
