Viet's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Viet Nguyen, who left us on October 27, 2024. Born on June 18, 1928, Viet lived a long and meaningful life that was filled with love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family.
In his prime years he was a loving father and dedicated husband focused on providing for his family. In his latter years, he was the wise patriarch dispensing advice only when solicited, respectful of boundaries within his large extended family and maintaining his independence and his own personal privacy. Throughout his long life, he earned the love and respect of every family member. He is known to be very cerebral and logical when giving counsel and guidance, able to navigate through blinding confusion and pointing people to a more streamlined thinking path. Despite many hardships he faced throughout his life , Viet's spirit remained unbroken, and his optimism served as an inspiration for all those who knew him.
In his 90s Viet loved practicing Tai Chi, taking long walks in the woods, playing Sudoku on his laptop, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, fishing in the summer time and most of all he enjoyed all the extended family gatherings organized regularly by his children throughout the year every year.
Viet's life journey was a showcase of his strength and resilience. In Vietnam he fought against French colonialism, lived through the Japanese occupation in WW2 and the Vietnam war of the 70s including the debacle at the end that forced him to flee the country and restart a new life in the US . His long career as an airline executive spanned many decades from 1955 through 1993 and took him and his family to far reaching corners of the world including Congo, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi . His strong legacy will live on through the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who survived him.
Viet will be reunited in the afterlife with his wife Muoi Ha Nguyen who passed away in 2002.
The void left by Viet's passing is immense, but his memory lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his sons, Tien, Thach, Tung, and Vu Nguyen, his daughters, Yen Sullivan and Oanh Nguyen. Each of them cherished deeply by Viet, and are a testament to the kind of loving father he was.
As we mourn Viet's passing, we also celebrate his life, honoring the love, wisdom, and joy he brought into our lives. We carry his memory in our hearts, where his spirit continues to guide and inspire us. Viet was a remarkable man, and his loss will be deeply felt by all of us who were fortunate enough to have known him.
A part of his ashes will be placed in the same mausoleum vault as his wife’s and the other part will be scattered at sea as he had enjoyed fishing so much every summer. There will be no funeral services.
In lieu of flowers to the family, please consider making a donation in his memory to the Children of Vietnam organization
