The Bravery of Elder Stanley
I remember in the very beginning.
It seems so long ago now.
As l entered Bethel Leeds.
On that momentous day.
I remember Elder Stanley.
Playing skilfully the church organ.
Which he deeply loved.
I remember he loved singing.
In, l think a very deep baritone.
I remember he loved.
To be amongst his beloved brothers.
From Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.
He rarely sang alone.
Locally and in the district too.
He never shied away.
From Bethel National choir too.
Whilst praying or singing.
As a leader and a brother.
He bowed before.
God's throne.
I remember Elder Stanley.
Handing out his papers.
On which the hymns of Zion.
In which our songs were on.
All the meetings with him.
The brethren attended.
As we sang.
Our Godly songs.
I remember Elder Stanley.
When Bethel Leeds.
Was very vibrant and so strong.
I remember.
How he and sister Stanley.
Where at Pastor's Parris's side.
They with the brethren.
Helped her in Christ.
To abide and push on.
But mostly l remember.
His quiet, thoughtful and sometimes,
Puzzled look and charm.
Elder Stanley.
Though weakened.
By his illness.
Never threw in the towel.
Even though.
He could have said no more.
Dear Lord please.
But he continued.
Through his pain and woe.
He continued and loved God.
So much.
I have seen many brave men.
In my life large and small.
But dear Elder Stanley.
But your bravery.
In your challenging life.
Is a testimony.
To us all.
Your bravery.
Is the example.
To all those.
Who have had to be brave.
When life offers up.
Tests to their destiny.
And make them feel afraid.
I remember now.
You are no longer in pain.
And for you.
We give God thanks and praise.
The organ.
That you played.
We look on with fondness too.
As we your brethren.
Remember with God's love you.
God strengthen and keep.
Your family Elder Stanley.
