Travis's obituary
Travis Michael Gabbard was born April 1st, 1978 in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Michael LeRoy and Glenda Karen (Miller)Gabbard. He grew up in Elgin and graduated from school there in 1997. His favorite class was agriculture and he was active in the FFA chapter. He spent the summer before his senior year traveling from Oklahoma to Montana working on wheat harvest. In his senior year, Elgin's Ag Mechanics team won the state championship and Travis scored the highest of all competitors.
After graduation, Travis trained as a farrier and practiced that until back pain caused him to stop. He was a rambling man and changed jobs and hobbies many times; working as a truck driver, welder, heavy equipment operator and in various service positions. his hobbies included blacksmithing, team roping, motorcycle riding and archery/rifle competitions. He also played bass guitar with small groups, or at church. He always lived in the Elgin area, except for a three year period when he worked in Dillon, Montana.
He trusted in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and, therefore, joined his mom in heaven after a short battle with cancer. Although he never married, Travis made friends easily and leaves many to mourn his passing. I'm sure he would tell you that "Eternity Is Too Long To Be Wrong".
Travis was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Glenda; grandparents Arla and Madge Gabbard, Jane and Kenneth Dodson, and Donald "Buck" Miller. He is survived by his father, Mike Gabbard of Elgin; his sister Karen and husband DJ Brown of Healdton; nieces and nephew Sadie, Sophie, Mollie and Henry Brown. Aunts and Uncles are Jeanne Cook of Guthrie, Rodney and Cheryl Dodson of Elgin, Donna and Tommie Miller of Elgin, Joe and Cicci Miller of Las Vegas, along with several much loved cousins.
