Thomas's obituary
Captain Thomas “Tom” Allen Webb, Jr., 71, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at his home in Ocklawaha, Florida. Tom was born to Thomas Allen Webb, Sr. and Clare Scott Wailes Webb on September 6, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky.
After graduating from Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, Tom attended Tennessee Tech University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. During college he was also a valued member of the Sportsman’s World Competition Waterski Team.
Tom then moved to the Florida Keys to pursue his dream of running dive boats. While his path was unconventional, Tom went on to earn certifications at the highest levels for celestial navigation, captaincy, and eventually became the first tugboat captain to be offered a harbor pilot position by the San Francisco Bar Pilot Commission. Tom’s love for his maritime career was only surpassed by his passion for mentoring others. He was generous with his time and helped hundreds further their Maritime careers. Tom’s love for the water never waned, and after moving to Lake Weir, he spent many hours boating, kayaking, teaching grandchildren wake boarding and tubing behind his boat. After retiring as tug master in 2011, he could be found traveling with his wife in their motor home, fly fishing, or designing and flying RC airplanes.
He rekindled his passion for the Lord and became a deacon and then an elder at the Maricamp Road Church of Christ where he was often serving and mentoring others. Tom also met his wife Ruth through the church, and they were married on August 28, 2004. With this union, Tom gained a wife and two daughters whom he loved as his own.
Tom leaves behind his wife Ruth Webb, children Kaili Diamond and Thomas (Jessica) Webb, stepdaughters Amy (Tony) Reghetti and Michelle (Paul) Carpenter, grandchildren Cooper Webb, Hannah, Emma, and Mac Carpenter, and Ty Reghetti, and sisters Clare (Bill) Leach and Kay (Gary) Verble.
A celebration of life will be held on May 11, 2024, at the Maricamp Road Church of Christ, 2750 SE Maricamp Rd, Ocala. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am with a service following at 11:00 am.
