I first me Tom across the street from my home. I was setting on the ground changing a water sprinkler head for our friend who was battling Cancer. Tom and his church family were there to help with some yard work that needed done. I thought it was a bit strange that he was standing next to the truck watching me and then he came to me and introduced himself.  As we were talking he asked me where I went to church, I told him and then asked him the same question . When he told me Marion Camp Church of Christ, I said Oh I grew up in the Church of Christ. Long story short, but not so short,  he said that I should come visit his church. I told him I was leaving for North Carolina the next day from the summer, but, maybe when I got back in October I would. Some how our conversation and seeing how wonderful all these people were touched by heart ❤️. I went home and told my husband this story and said, I think I’m going to go check this church out when we get back from the mountains.  The minute I walked I knew I found my church. God was calling me through this Godly, loving man. Thanks to Tom, he led me back to my home church. I’ll be ever so thankful for you Tom Webb for leading me back home.  I sure do miss seeing you at church, but, I know you’re there in spirit

Captain Tom and I have been friends for close to 35 years. We worked together at PortMiami for the 24 years that I was a harbor pilot and he was captain of the ports' flagship tug "Coastal Miami". Our friendship extended well beyond each of our retirements.

Captain Tom was as dependable as they come and that came along with a big heart and sense of humor. Whenever we shared duty days and were facing a difficult ship maneuver, just knowing that I would be working with Captain Tom relieved a measurable degree of stress.

The warmest and fondness memories I have are the times when I would join him and the crew on the tug for dinner after a long day. He shared a tremendous comradely with his crew and some of their humorous stories of shared experiences would bring tears to my eyes.

One of the best pranks that he ever pulled on me took place when I was invited for dinner. I parked my green Tahoe next to the tug, as was usual, the joined him and the crew for a delicious meal. About half-way through the meal a loud crash was heard on the dock followed by the seaport duty officer running on board yelling that a container had fallen off a forklift and crushed a green truck. I jumped up and ran outside only to find that not only was my truck unscratched but two grown men were in tears from laughing so hard. The longshoreman who "dropped" the container was given $20. A classic Tom Webb joke that could never be surpassed no matter how I tried.

My son, Jamison, also had the honor of working for Captain Tom during a summer break from college, which provided him with a real-world experience of being alongside real, hardworking, men in an ever changing and challenging environment. Jamie grew up that summer. He thought the world of Captain Tom.

I will miss him tremendously but have a treasure trove of memories to help sooth his passing. Calm seas and a following wind Captain Tom.
