Thomas's obituary

Thomas Richard Smith passed away peacefully after three days in hospice in Brooksville, Florida. He resided with his youngest son of nine children, Thomas Fenwick at a home they had purchased a year earlier in Brooksville. Mr. Thomas Richard Smith was in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was the defacto captain of LCT 704, although his rank was Quartermaster, a navigator. He bravely participated in the Second Wave at Omaha Beach and the liberation of France. Before the war ended, he also made it to the Pacific Theatre during Japan's surrender. After the war, he took little time, with the nudge of his Sargeant Major Dad, to return to school and get on with life. He had remarkable ambition and within fifteen years was a well-recognized executive and business journal author, even becoming the youngest member of Textron's BrainTrust. Before he left Brown University, he was teaching classes as an adjunct professor. He was a prolific inventor in the "looseleaf" industry, having had in excess of 20 patents. A strong passion of his was the written word and he was an extraordinary word mechanic, and left behind a voluminous manuscript which someday will undoubtedly become recognized for its merit. His death is preceded by his wife of 63 years, Beverly Jane Forbush, who passed on August 10, 2010, at the age of 85 in Natick, Massachusetts. Goodbye Dad, you had a good run, old boy.
