TJ's obituary
Dr. Thomas Jefferson (TJ) Osborne passed September 23, 2024 in San Jose, CA. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Melanie, his children Ashley and Benjamin, his mother Linda Mariani, five siblings and a large extended family, including friends, patients and community members.
Dr. Osborne was raised primarily in Los Altos, CA and graduated from Los Altos High School in 1988. He continued his education at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo where he met the love of his life, Melanie. The two shared a passion for leading a life of service. Dr. Osborne received his doctorate in chiropractic at Palmer Chiropractic College West, where he was recognized for his talent and dedication. He was named Student of the Century, received the President’s Award for Clinical Excellence, served as Student Body Secretary and President, served as Editor of the School Publication and contributed for many years as a visiting lecturer. In 1993, the California Chiropractic Association awarded him Student of the Year and in 1994-95 he was the Statewide Student Chair.
Dr. Osborne’s love for chiropractic healing led him to open his own practice in 1995. His passion and dedication to his mission on earth was clear. Just 3 years after graduation, he was recognized as Doctor of the Year by the California Chiropractic Association. He received this award locally and statewide multiple times and received a letter from the President of the United States recognizing his accomplishments. Dr. Osborne was well recognized for his expertise in the field of chiropractic, but he measured his success by the quality of his relationships with his patients and his involvement with community. Dr. Osborne centered his practice around the health of families and loved caring for children. In 2004, he was recognized as the Top Family Chiropractor in the U.S.A.
Doc was outstanding in so many ways. He had the ability to move people to action and spread scientifically based and easily applicable information. He enriched lives with his ability to connect through humor, kindness, and authenticity. Dr. Osborne sought to heal everyone with whom he came into contact, whether it was the store clerk, teachers, patients, family or a complete stranger. Seeing people heal themselves through their own power, was the source of his joy. His hands were a gift from God and he treated them as such.
CalChiro posted that Dr. Osborne was “one of its most cherished healers and community leaders. His passing has left a vacuum in the lives of the many patients who knew him as a kind, devoted, and an all encompassing wellness practitioner, as well as in the hearts of his family and friends. Dr. Osborne was a man who believed in the healing power of human connection, understanding, and individualized treatment. He was not merely a talented chiropractor, but his influence extended much beyond the boundaries of his practice, having a significant and lasting effect on everyone with whom he came in contact.”
With the support of his wife and his clinic team, Dr. Osborne contributed to multiple charities. He utilized his practice as a hub to conduct outreach events for the community such as children’s school supply and backpack drives, food drives during the holidays, and countless donations. He found inspiration in and was moved to action by the needs and stories of others. Dr. Osborne received a letter of commendation from Governor Gray Davis for his “dedication to community service by helping develop anti-drug programs and establishing healthcare programs for the disadvantaged”. He wrote several books and enjoyed speaking all over the U.S.A sharing his love and commitment for chiropractic healing, resources and the message of Maximized Living. Each person with whom he interacted with was immediately touched by his spark of joy, infectious energy, humble spirit, dashing good looks and signature bow tie.
Dr. Osborne enjoyed his involvement as the Team Doctor for the U.S.A. Olympic Judo, Wrestling and Weightlifting teams for the 2016 Olympics. He most recently served as a consulting doctor for the San Jose Sharks and Barracuda Hockey Teams.
Outside of Dr. Osborne’s professional involvement, he cultivated a very rich family life. He was unapologetically devoted to his wife and children. TJ knew his most important contribution to this world were his children. He prioritized and took very seriously his leadership role with the Boy Scouts of America and accompanied Ben through to his Eagle Scout completion. He was a constant cheering fan for both Ashley and Ben’s multiple sports activities from kindergarten through high school. As his children moved on to university, he became a dedicated Roll Tide fan of University of Alabama and Gonzaga University and shared tears of joy at each level of his children’s accomplishments. He attributed his success as a father and in his profession to the unwavering faith of his wife. Melanie provided TJ the structure, motivation, loyalty, organization and love to allow his most treasured attributes to shine.
His selfless love will be missed by his family, patients and community. Dr. Osborne’s legacy will continue through each of us. We will carry his Light for guidance as we strive to be the best version of ourselves.
