Summer of 1958. Rhonda, 8; Terry 9, Me (margo), 10; Linda 11. My dad, Capt Ralph Jackson USAF was stationed at Andrews AFB just out of Washington DC. We lived on the MD side of DC. My dad's brother, Capt Ted Jackson, USA, was stationed at the Pentagon and lived with his family on the VA side of town. They found a wonderful park for a family picnic so we all got together. This park had a creek running through it, so of course all of us kids begged to go wading. Our mothers finally consented but with dire warnings to not get wet. The creek was wonderful, but the rocks were quite slippery. OOPS. One down. Me. The OOPS, Terry then Rhonda. Then the three of us again a few times. Linda never did get wet. While we were trying to come up with a good story, Uncle Ted watching us from the bank with Becky in arms, said, " Y'all don't get wet." Our parents were all having a good time, no one really cared if we were wet. It was a wonderful day.
During our years together there in DC we always had wonderful and fun times.

It was the summer of 1971. I went to Redfield with my parents and my sisters, Rhonda and Becky for a Jackson Family Reunion. Some of the cousins and my sisters decided to go for a drive to the River. Chuck was driving, Terry, Jackie, Rhonda. Becky, and I (Margo) went along. At he river we decided to put our feet in, then do a little wading (it was about waist deep). Of course splashing and throwing water of each other, then throwing mud on each other, and then a big mud fight.
Later, when I changed clothes, I found my bra was filled with mud.
That evening the cousins decided to go out for pizza. Jimbo and Beverly joined us then. Jackie wanted to invite his girlfriend, Barbara who wanted to bring her friend, Melba. When we went to pick up Barbara, her parents insisted me all come in to meet them. We were all in Chuck's car again, very squishy because so many people and also because the seats were still wet from the river trip. The seats of our pants were all soaked. Terry told the parents, the Jacksons all have kidney problems. We had to have people sitting on laps: Melba ended up on Terry's lap and tried to get some making out going. Terry complained later that if you get in a desperate situation, you can't rely on anyone from this family to help you. I one point Terry asked Melba if her last name was Toast. Didn't stop Melba from trying though.

Terry was such an important member of our family- cousin, "brother", friend. I am so grateful for the years Uncle Ted was stationed close to us, even more, for the family reunions that brought us back together. I have even almost forgiven him for teaching my sons the terrible "spit trick"! Love you, Terry, and will miss you always. Much love to Charleen, the girls, and their families.
