T's obituary
He graduated from B.H High School and continued his college education in Kollam. He graduated with Bachelors in Commerce and took up his first employment as an administrative staff member at Bishop Moore College. In 1969 he sailed to Dubai for better prospects and joined the National Bank of Dubai, where he served for more than 31 years as officer and retired in 2001. He met his life partner Sosamma of the Puramath Kottarathil family of Tiruvalla, then working at Mafarak Hospital, Dubai through the acquaintance of his aunt Dr. Achamma Abraham (Chinamama) and the marriage took place in Dubai. Manoj, his eldest son, is an ENT surgeon, married to Anju, an ophthalmologist with two children and practicing In Kannur. His second son Reji is a mechanical engineer from REC, Calicut with a Masters from the US, who is married to Asira, an entrepreneur with two children settled in Cleveland, Ohio. His daughter Jyothi is a psychiatrist married to Sumod Kurian, a professor and cardiologist with two children working in Delhi in Government service.
Babuchayan was not only a dedicated and loving father to his children. He was a beloved father figure for all his nieces and nephews in the extended Thoompunkal family. He was a beloved brother for all his brothers, sisters, brother in laws and sister in laws, without difference. He was always concerned for the welfare of others, constantly working and making sacrifices for the sake of his family. He was the Moses of our Thoompunkal family and a mentor for the younger generation. From taking the family members to appointments to organizing marriages, baptisms and funerals, he exemplified his service as a servant leader very much like Christ.
His contributions to his community have been remarkable. During his time in Dubai he was a very active member of the church and worked relentlessly to set up new churches in Sharjah and the neighboring emirates. He served as secretary, treasurer, committee member and church ward to the church communities he served in Dubai and in Mavelikara. His services to the parish and community continued even in his post retirement period, raising money to build the local middle school and high schools, including the higher secondary school of Bishop Hodges in the Mavelikara town center. He also served as secretary of Bible society Mavelikara and was a Auxillary Committee member of the Kerala Chapter. Thus he realized much more than his mother’s dream to serve the Kingdom of God. He is a shining example of a soldier of God who adorned the full armor of God and stood firm and mighty with God’s power. He always had the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness and feet with the readiness for the gospel. He has fought the good fight with the shield of faith and the sword of the word of God. He has ran the race, reached the finish line and has been taken into his eternal home to receive the glorious crown. Let us glorify and thank our Heavenly father for giving us this gift of life as Thoompunkal’s own Moses to lead us and our posterity to his kingdom.
